The virus was real, it killed a lot of people in at-risk groups (generally with pre-existing conditions). The first couple of variants were more lethal than flu, but only for at-risk populations. Latter variants are significantly weakened. Omicron was a blessing and helped build herd immunity.
I don't think it was a "scam" per se, I think it was highly leveraged for power and money. I also think the risk was heavily exaggerated in the mainstream media. The media thrives on fear, and certain MSM organizations are in bed with the government. I think the fear wrt children, given the data, was massively misplaced. Many people lived in irrational levels of fear, including my parents, who were attached to mainstream media.
I also think many people ran a heavily miscalculated cost/risk analysis. Risk was exaggerated, and not normalized properly, in relation to other areas of life where we take risk daily.
CDC and many institutions lost a lot of credibility. We should be more skeptical of institutions and authority figures, and understand their incentives. Follow the money. But that doesn't mean we should all become tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists and blindly reject all mainstream messaging.𝕮𝖍𝖆𝖘𝖊 𝖆 𝖈𝖍𝖊𝖈𝕶, 𝖓𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖘𝖊 𝖆 𝖇𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍
