I looked up a video on youtube of a guy performing his first 600mi service but I have a feeling it will be cheaper Iron Pony to do it for me. All is needed is an oil change, clean the chain, and re-lube. I have everything tools wise but I'd still need oil, a filter, a bike stand, and the stuff needed to change/lube the chain so it's looking to be more expensive for me doing it myself.

    Thoughts?

I do plan to buy a stand in the future to make storage and swapping out my exhaust either but I can't get one at the moment. All future oil changes will likely be done by me.
well you should really clean/lube your chain more often than every 600 miles all it is is a can of chain cleaner £5 and a can of chain lube £8

heck i know a lot of lads who even run there bikes on car oil as its cheaper and does the same job but even then including the stand you should be able to do everything for well under £100 a stand is £30-40 oil and filter another £30
is this the most ****gy miscer ?

Don't. Motorcycle oil is formulated to lubricate the clutch as well, something car oil is not meant to do. Over time, your clutch will not be happy with you.

The 1000k (600m) service is pretty easy. Like you said, it's basically an oil & filter change and a chain lube & adjustment. You'll be doing those quite regularly so you might want to do it this time. If not definitely do the next one. $99 plus parts isn't bad IMO. Shops in my area charge about $85 an hour so that's not bad.

Do you have a service manual? I'd get one since working on bikes is so easy and it'll save you a tonne of money in the long run.
I've come to the conclusion that I'll do it myself for sure

After doing some research I was awared on that (lubing more often)

Yup, everything looks good except your chain lube isn't a cleaner. I've always used kerosene to clean my chain. You can get it cheap at a paint store. Just put it in a spray bottle and you're good to go. And I highly recommend a grunge brush to clean the chain. It makes everything SO much easier. You can usually get them for like $4 at CycleGear.

Oh and one more thing, when you're cleaning and lubing your chain DON'T DO IT WITH THE ENGINE ON. Always do it with the engine off, transmission in neutral and spinning the tire by hand. Many fingers have been cut off doing it the former way. I'd also put a bunch of shop towels down on the ground under the chain or you'll get kerosene all over the floor. And wear latex gloves. No point getting toxic chemicals on your hands.

I read that it cleans/lubes all-in-one. You spray on once to clean/wipe down then you spray on again to lube. I'll take your word for it though.

With your other suggestions, will do. People have talked about cleaning the chain with cardboard under them and I have tons of boxes laying around so I'll probably do it that way. Repped for advice brah I really appreciate it. I'm all for diy stuff granted I can't damage something beyond repair.

EDIT: Added all of your recommendations to my cart:

    -grunge brush
    -kerosene
    -box of gloves
    -spray bottles

Now at roughly $200 in my cart. Not bad considering that almost half of that stuff I'm buying can be reused and save me money in the long term.

Looks good, bro. Word of caution: don't strip or over-tighten your oil pan bolt or your oil filter. Easy for folks to think they have to be hella tight, but the crush washer does its job. When you take the bolt out, find the washer (don't let it fall in your drain pan and get lost), and record the size. Flip it over and reuse it, and order some spares for the next oil change.

So about how much should I tighten it? Hand tight and proceed to use the tool to tighten further, then one last small crank?

    No worries.

There will be torque specs online for your bolt (you have a torque wrench?) it's usually like 17-20 ft/lbs, not much. The filter, just rub a little new oil around the gasket with your finger and hand tighten. If it weeps, give it another 1/8-1/4 turn.

You set it to the desired torque, and then while you're tightening the bolt it "breaks" with a click when you've applied the preset amount of torque. Stop there.

I can't speak to that. Could be a dry clutch, could be an aftermarket, could just work fine. I ran car oil in my 675 and clutch slipped like a sonofabitch. You might get away with it, you might not. Don't wanna start a debate, just throwing the fact out there.

Choose the one you want, they all would work with the bikes colors already.

Is a Honda Rebel a good first bike?

I prefer cruisers to sportbikes and I'm ultimately looking to upgrade to a Stryker/Speedmaster

    Thoughts?

Not a bad choice. Look at the Nighthawk also. They tend to be low miles, so usually knowing a bit about a carb is helpful

    Ok cool.

I have the cash to splash on a more impressive bike like a Bolt, but I live in NYC so I'm fairly sure I'll get some bumps from cabbies and housewives in GL450s pretty early on.
