I just switched out my trashy WD 1tb blue drive for a 1tb red drive and I feel relieved. I was on my third warranty replacement of the Caviar Blue. The 1tb model of that drive is such junk.

That's a crazy price for a quality 27" 4k monitor. I just dropped $1k on a 32".

The fail rate is TERRIBLE on them. Just look at the Newegg reviews for this model.
I bought 2. The first one failed within a month. The second failed within 6 months. I'm on the third warranty replacement of one and the second warranty replacement of the other.
I think it might be just this one specific design, but it's the worst hard drive I've ever had. I have redundant backups of everything, but it's still a PITA to have to use that all the time.480s / 370b / 495d / 235 x 2 SOHP

Guys I need some help. Should I buy the Gigabyte gtx 970 windforce 3x. It's not the G1, since it's too expensive for me. Should I buy it now for 390 canadian dollars, or should I wait to see if their price will drop when AMD releases the 390x.

Depends how long you're willing to wait and if you need it right now. The cards are said to be out Q2 2015 so you could be waiting 2-4 months before the 390x is out. I would personally prefer the G1 over the windforce but with that said you could pretty easily overclock the windforce to match the G1 clocks.

Fuk that man. It seems these things tend to happen in streaks. These drives are still 4/5 stars on NewEgg but of course most of the 1 star reviews are people that went through 2 or 3 drives while others have no problems at all.
I've already got them ordered with the rest of my parts so I'm gonna try them out. Two drives will be in RAID 1 with my sensitive data backed up. If they crap out early I'll be quick to switch to the blacks or another brand entirely.

Got my switch sampler in today. fukkin made my switch choice harder. It was either browns or clears.
Decided to play it safe and went with MX Browns and got the Das Keyboard 4 Professional Silent Edition. Just dropped $160 on a keyboard, outragous. This chit is going right back to Amazon if it isn't worth it.

Any brahs here build their own NAS? I've been thinking about building one instead of adding more drives to my desktop (so I don't have to leave it on 24/7) but I briefly glanced at newegg and it looks like all the NASs that hold 5+ drives are quite spendy. I feel like o could build something for $300 or less (not including HDDs obviously but I'm not really sure on the hardware requirements for a NAS)

If you live near a best buy, you could've went in and tried the switches in-store on a full keyboard first. I think it's a lot different than just pressing a single key on the tester.
Best Buy usually has a few of these on display:
Razer BW Ultimate 2013 - Cherry MX Blue
Razer BW Ultimate 2014 - "Razer Greens" which are slightly modified Kailh Blues
Corsair K65/K70 - Cherry MX Red
Logitech G710+ - Cherry MX Brown
Logitech G910 - Romer G

Thoughts on these cases?
Antec Three Hundred 2
Fractal Design Define R4
Ignore those prices, they're both about $100. Originally I wanted to go with the Antec but it was out of stock. The Fractal Design is kind of ugly IMO but still a simple, clean case + it has 2 extra USB ports in the front.
They're both pretty basic cases, but I'm not sure which I prefer. Or maybe someone has a better recommendation around $100
Hadn't heard this, but I did some research and sure enough WD recommends Red drives for RAID. However in terms of RAID 1 I haven't found much to suggest Reds make a huge difference. This one guy even claims Blue is better.
According to a top-level tech at Western Digital, (it took me 2 hours to get this guy on the phone) you should always use raid-rated drives for RAID 0, 5 & 10. Otherwise, your drives could constantly get rebuilt, every time there are drop outs.
HOWEVER, he said that regular desktop drives are not only fine for RAID-1, they are actually preferable. TLER can actually be problematic with RAID-1, which is simply redundant writing. (no reads.)
I dunno, but this guy has been a backup tech for 45 years, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Upgraded my RAM to 16GB today. Less than 50% RAM usage now. Feels good.
Also I developed a stuttering problem on Chrome (before I upgraded and it persisted after). When playing 1080p in full screen the video would stutter, like it was running a few frames shorter than 30 (no audio stutter). This isn't attributed to my monitor as it only just started happening yesterday or the day before. The only thing I've done in that time is install CrashPlan for backups.
To fix the problem I disabled the flash plugin at chrome://plugins. It fixed the problem completely but now I can't see flash objects (not a huge deal) and most importantly these forums lag now when I scroll. Like it delays scrolling, etc. It only happens on this site. Wtf brahs.
Anyone ever experience either of these problems?
EDIT: Reenabled flash and it started again. Smooth as fuk in windowed, choppy in fullscreen. Probably gonna reinstall W8.1 tomorrow, this install feels pretty fuarked among other problems. Frustrating.Last edited by OneWayFS; 01-21-2015 at 08:39 PM.
