Depends on location. I have buddies who have a favorite shop that they go to...I am a lot more nomadic in general so tend to prefer just ordering online to the closest FFL. I also am pretty much done buying guns at this point in my life.

Treating myself this season. I've always wanted a tack driver for deer and elk in Idaho. Bought a Christianson Arms Ridgeline 7mm mag and a Leupold VX5HD 4x20x52. Lots of bad reviews on the Christianson Arms but hoping I get a good one. My bro in law who has sniper training and does swat for the government loves his and has nothing bad to say. Seems like most people that give reviews on the interwebs have bad experiences and want to complain about. Kinda rolling the dice on this but we will see. The carbon wrapped barrel might be gimmicky but I wanted to try it out. I like the larger dia barrel and brake. I couldn't find a Mesa on sale in 7mm so went with the Ridgeline. Reason I'm sticking with a 7mm mag is I have a ton of ammo for it and have always shot a 7mm for hunting my entire life. The 300 wm was eyeing my hard though.
Currently using my 1984 Remington 700 7mm mag with a Vortex DiamondBack 3x9 scope that I have a total of $225 into.
Last straw was this year I would have filled a couple tags if I could shoot out to 500-700 yards. My current setup there was zero chance, with the new set up, I'll at least get to pull the trigger.
I'm hoping to get into more long range plinking and hunting, crossing my fingers this CA Ridgeline is the answer.

It was a little less, I think $1350 ish, Rifle was $1750. I originally bought the Leupold VX6HD 3x18x44 but I realized is has an in scope electronic reticle level which is illegal in Idaho so I cancelled that and had to step down to the VX5HD. I know I over paid for the Ridgeline even on sale but fuk it. I haven't put any money into my hunting rifles ever. I bought my Remington 7mm when I was 14 for $125. I was due. Hopefully I don't have to spend money on a hunting rifle the rest of my life.

I ordered, uh, a decent amount of stuff last week. So far Amazon and Joe Bob Outfitters are the only ones delivering today. Joe Bob is pretty solid.

There are some good gun shops in the area, I just live in the country and don't get in shopping regularly enough to get to know the guys behind the counter or catch the good deals. About all of my last several purchases have been online. I have a buddy that runs a side business with an FFL out of his house so when I see something I want I just have it shipped to him and he does that transfer for me at no cost.

Do any of you ambidextrous lower nerds know about PC’s?
Is this solid? I want to start PC gaming and maybe editing videos for YouTube because between our private range, and the guns we have we can make some cool chit and we are debating starting to film.

12th gen intel is out already
https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i5...B&gclsrc=aw.ds
that ram looks slow af
I think the 12600k uses ddr5 now! huge reason to go 12th gen
that power supply may struggle with the gpu and intel cpu, intel just throws wattage at their cpus to compete with AMD
The most power efficient setup seems to be AMD cpu with nvidia gfx cards, but that's not a huge concern
500gb is not enough storage for anyone, especially content creators.
in all honestly, if you can get your hands on an rtx3070 then most of your work is done
Not the biggest fan of MSI motherboards, I prefer ASUS but plenty of people feel otherwise.Last edited by rectifryer; 11-29-2021 at 11:02 AM.

That's a pretty solid build.
I have built in that case before, too. It's pretty nice.
The 11700k is 8 core 16 thread which would help for video encoding time - depends on how much $ each costs. Also the next gen is just coming out, the 12600k is another 16 thread cpu and might be cheaper than the 11700k
You absolutely need to pick a different power supply, though. That line had issues catching on fire:

I've had good luck with Corsair and EVGA psus.

Is there a consensus GOAT car battery jumper box?
Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

Is this better with an AMD chip? Lose the option for that deepcool fan. I’d rather do air cooling for the simplicity but maybe it doesn’t matter.

Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
