Thanks a lot. I'll have a look into those razors. I am really curious to test adjustable safety razors since I have exactly the problems you mentioned.

You cup the bottom of it so the middle of it stays straight and tight. The leather is soft. I will look for a picture later showing what I meant.

It is actually called a barbers end because there no attached handle. Google just told me that. I there was a name for but it couldn't remember it. It makes no difference in how the strop works. Just hold it taught and strop away.

Just bought my first double edge razor - Merkur, will try it this weekend.

Btw, for any London brahs who want a professional shave, don't go to the Refinery, go to Geo Trumper - much better (and cheaper too).

So after my third shave with a DE my neck is still not enjoying it. I get really bad razor burn. Don't really cut myself, just burns and bumps. I think one of the problems is I am going over the same spot a few times instead of once. There's also this one part of my neck that I can't seem to get to no matter what angle I shave at. Anyone got on tips on how to stop the burns and bumps? I always shave after a shower.

Have you tried a different blade? Just remember to use a light touch and the razor do the work. It take time but your face will adjust. Next time you get ready to shave pay attention to the way your facial hair grows. You will see that it does grow I'm different directions on certain parts of your face. You will just need to learn where those arrasw are when you do your first WTG pass.

All that I have tried are Feathers, Astras and Derbys. You could toss the Derbys before even trying them lol. To me it felt like I was shaved with chipped plastic. Let us know what you think about the others.

All I've tried so far is derbys, hopefully that's why I'm not getting a good shave!

I promise it will get better. Those blade are rough. I love personna reds, Astra's, and even sharks. I have about 15 different brands that still.haven't tried yet. I just prefer my straight.

After your shave, wipe your face down with witch hazel and then use an after shave balm

Yeah I did that and it's helps it a lot, it's just right after I shave that there's bumps and burns.

Ya my first ever DE shave was with derbys since it came with my razor. It was brutal. With each gentle stoke, you can feel how poor quality. Feathers are amazing.

I would avoid going over a spot that doesn't have any cream on it. It was tough for me to get used to that because it's not an issue when you're using cartridge blades, but it can definitely cause irritation when done with a DE.

It's hard to grasp the concept of "beard reduction" when making the switch. With most razors, especially a mild one like many non adjustable razors, you aren't always going to get all of the hairs with one pass. Go over everything once, relather, and go over again. You'll get the rest on the next pass.

I was having similar issues when I used the DE89 and I eventually figured out that it wasn't for me. I couldn't get a close enough shave with such a mild razor so I was having to go over spots several times. My skin just wouldn't tolerate all those passes and I would get razor burn. The DE89 is a solid razor and most people have zero issues with it, but it wasn't for me. Now that I use a more aggressive razor I only need 2 passes WTG to get a close shave, and I spare myself from having to go over the same spots too many times. No irritation anymore either.

Try some different blades to see if that's the issue, it very well could be. Or maybe you just haven't nailed down your technique yet.

Not saying you should abandon the DE89 yet, just something to think about.

Not saying you should abandon the DE89 yet, just something to think about.
Thanks for the info! I'm currently using a shaving factory razor that I got for Christmas.

Oh I thought you were a DE89 user, my bad.

I've never used, and don't know anyone who has used a razor from The Shaving Factory. I had to look it up on Amazon.

Fukk, aftwr reading the last few posts, I'm scared of using the Derbys that are coming with my razor lol I didn't order any extras because I just wanted to use those for starters. Might as well give them a shot and order some samples in the meantime

I didn't hate them as much as everybody else does, but I definitely won't be ordering any more of them. I thought they were a hell of a lot better than some of the other cheapo blades that came in my sample pack though.

    You'll be aight man.

I find Derby's are OK but I only get 1-2 shaves out of them. I'm burning out my current supply of Derby's then getting Feathers.

Feathers are some next level sht. They are a bit much for me to use on a daily basis but they are a solid choice.

I use feathers on the regular, and those are sharp as fuk. But because they're so sharp they actually give the smoothest shave IMO since they almost effortlessly slice right through your wiskers

Proably best for me then that they aren't overly sharp since it'll be my first time using the DE razor

Looks very restorable! Assuming that everything is in good working condition, that's a solid deal at $10.

    Keep us updated dude.

I had a look on badger and blade forum and its shows you step by step. As I said, this is completely new to me so for $10 its worth a shot. The steps something along the lines of letting it soak in alcohol then letting it sit in boiling water. Any other advice would be awesome!
