I will tell you this. As a current college student at a university taking engineering/math/physics classes, where you take the class doesnt matter as you learn EXACTLY the same thing in each class. However, in your case, the university would seem like the best bet in my opinion. Why? Because it will be from a university and not a CC. Its as if someone asked two identical people where they went to school and one went to Univeristy A and the other went to CC A, most likely the one that went to the university would get the job... IMO..

Don't stress too much man. If you did well in your class you'll be absolutely fine on the NR exam. It's such a broad range of material, don't drive yourself crazy trying to cram for the test. I'd keep looking over the test sheets for the practical stations though, memorize the hell out of them. They aren't timed stations, so you can take your time hitting all of the points on the sheet.
There really isn't going to be much of an advantage based on where the class is held, provided that there isn't a big difference in the hours of the course. The university is still going to use the nationally approved curriculum for their class, as is the CC. I assume that there would be a price difference though.
Do a little digging and ask around about the reputation of each course, that's how you'll find out which one is better. One may have better instructors or better training supplies.
An EMT class is just going to give you the basics so you can pass the NR tests. They rarely go above and beyond the curriculum unless they're affiliated with a department that's going to employ you after the class is over. The class lays the groundwork but doesn't really prepare you for the real world. It's just not realistic to be able to do that in such a short amount of time. Take the class wherever, pass the NR, then learn to be good at it OTJ.Last edited by 2Rude4MyOwnGood; 05-06-2014 at 06:17 AM.

Yo yo yo this is easy. Im part of my kitchen committee for my department (myself and 4 other guys) and if dinner isnt planned, my cooking idea makes everyone coming back for more. Its a Hibachi style dinner. Get about 5lbs of boneless, skinless chicken and some pasta (whole grain or wheat) cut the chicken up into small square pieces and throw it into a container with some soy sauce to marinate. As thats marinating cook the pasta. Once the pasta is one, throw the chicken on the griddle and let it cook. once done mix the pasta with it for 2 min and BAM! your done.
Make a salad as an appetizer and everyone will be satisfied. I cook this dinner almost all the time and everyone loves it. and in all only takes about 30 min and its done!***TwinLab MILITIA Member Since 2013***

I'm a big fan of making tacos, all fresh ingredients. I don't like to use anything out of a can if I don't have to. You can get as creative as you want for toppings and all you really have to do is cook the meat and put all of the separate veggies into bowls for people to serve themselves. Very firehouse friendly and you don't have to do much cooking, less opportunity to fk something up.
I usually use lean ground beef with low sodium taco seasoning, plus soft and hard tortillas. For toppings I get lettuce, cabbage, jalapeños, tomatoes, avocado, red bell peppers, red onion, shredded cheese, salsa (ok, I buy the processed stuff). Add or subtract any other toppings that you might like.
It's a pretty low effort meal so maybe that's not what you're looking for, but that's something that I value in a meal. If a call comes in while I'm cooking it I only have to turn off one burner instead of a bunch of appliances and grills. I like grilling but when a call comes in while the meat is on, big time bummer.
I also like making stuff in a crockpot. Put it together in the morning and forget about it all day. By dinner time you've got a giant bowl of good sht. It's really hard to mess up a crockpot meal. I just google recipes and pick something new every time. Chilli, stew, etc.

I fed the members of my department during one of your meetings (25 people) with 15lbs of chicken all mixed in with rice (one protion) and pasta (the other portion) Add a salad to it and you have yourself a meal. In my opinion its one of the quickest meals i have prepared.
Note: Pasta wont be plain, it will be mixed in with the chieck once cooked.
None taken. Tacos do sound like a great meal.. might as well pick up the taco bell deal so you dont have to do anything :

BLAHAHAHAHA
But in all seriousness i have had no problems with the habachi sytle meal (think of it like going to habachi with the friends, its cooked like that. my description might have not been described too well)***TwinLab MILITIA Member Since 2013***

The administrator at the school stressed steel-toed. Was thinking 100-150. I'm assuming they last a while, so it may be worth it to spend extra on a quality pair?
Those are pretty sweet! They're pretty expensive, but they must last a lifetime.✰ EVERYDAY I'M SHUFFLIN' ✰ OFFICIAL MISC RUNNING CREW ✰

That's pretty odd that he would specify steel toed boots rather than just boots that meet the safety standards. There really aren't all that many EMS/Fire boots that actually use steel anymore. Composite is cheaper, much lighter, and very strong, so most boots have it in place of steel. Steel toes are still used frequently in forestry work, but EMS has gone away from steel for the most part.
Honestly, I'd double check and make sure that the administrator really meant "steel toe" and not "safety toe". People who don't work in the field get those terms confused. There is virtually no difference besides the fact that composite is MUCH lighter than steel.
Unless they want you to go by logging boots, your options for EMS boots with actual steel toes are pretty limited.

I just took my NREMT-P written exam this afternoon. Haven't been on the Misc much lately because I've been busting my ass studying.
I finished it in under 80 questions. I feel pretty good about it and I think I got the last question right, but I know other guys who said the same thing and failed. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to find out my results. Fuaaaaark!*Misc Firefighter/EMT Crew*

Hopefully, it will turn out for the best. One of my co-workers just took his NREMT-P written last Friday and was told he had to wait until about the middle of this week to find out the results. He logged into GEMSIS on Saturday and while he has not received the official results, his new title was Paramedic.
