Well, anonymous has TOR nodes set up that inject something into your java when you view Child pornography, thus tracking your IP. They did this massively a while back and handed alot of ****s out to the cops.
But if you set up TOR correctly, disable java script/flash and use addons like https everywhere you arent in any real danger i think.
Cops go after mass uploaders not people who view CP once or twice without downloading anything.
The one time i ever went into there to see how it was set up(no ****) i came across a 'snuff CP' section, seen pictures of children lying dead in the mud in a pool of blood. Dead srs, cannot get it out of my head.

Why can't the cops stop the distribution of TOR? This would prevent people from accessing this deep web

the cops dont have jurisdiction in cyberspace....more than likely it would handled by the department of treasury, in which case they really dont have any grounds to do so, all it is, is an IP anonimizer, the program itself isnt affiliated with anything illegal

If I remember correctly TOR is/was actually military funded (the Navy?). Maybe even partially sponsored. The point of TOR wasn't so that ****philes can access those things easier, the original intent was so that internet users could use the internet without being spied on. This applies even more so to the military especially if they have undercover agents or soldiers (that way their location can't be pinpointed or something). I believe activists also use it so they can get around censorship in their country.

So yea, there really isn't anything illegal about TOR or at least not in the US.

The deep web is pretty boring. Most of it is fake, it's just people trolling. Some of the more questionable pictures are obviously real but are no different to what you might see if you spend too long on 4chan.

Ultimately tor is readily available to anyone. You just need to download the torbundle from the torproject site and away you go. Clearly nothing particularly interesting is going to be posted on what are basically normal public websites. Plus it's slow as ****.

If you could actually get into confidential areas of company/government websites, that would be when it would get interesting.
