Yes. On my second one, currently. If you shoot it well, and you're comfortable with it, I think it's probably the best choice of the three. I was over at my buddy's house last week, sizing up my G23 against his M&P 45C, and they're actually both really the same size. The difference, in my experience is that the Glock handles better in regards to muzzle flip and stability, as well as my personal preference for the trigger.

Now, you can always make the argument that it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, given the caliber difference, but .40 is generally considered to be more snappy and errant than .45 in muzzle climb and recoil, so I think its pretty fair to say that in .40, the M&P is probably going to handle just as poorly (if not worse).

And finally, I have another friend of mine who has the XDm 3.8" in .40. This pistol's trigger blows away the others, I shoot it more accurately than the others, and while the grip is a bit longer than the other two options, it saves some real estate latitude-wise with the shorter barrel. That said, it does balance a bit awkwardly with the higher bore axis once you start dropping into the 7 rounds or so range. With a full mag, it's not bad, but that's contingent on staying full. If I wasn't already so familiar with the Glock platform, I might be tempted to dive into the XDm.

That's all my opinion, mind you. I can't advocate enough how essential it is for you to make your own assessments based on actually fondling, firing, and researching. But now you've got a bit more to read into, if nothing else.

147gr 9mm will get it done.

Plenty of concealable .45acp pistols out there, too.

I have a G30 that conceals well & shoots great. They also make a single stack .45acp that may coneal easier.
You have a good point. I do want the 40 to have another sized caliber in my collection. I will look into some better 9mm bullets for defense then. I wonder if my xd could handle plus p.

Yea, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea because they make awesome holsters. But my 1911 has torn the hell out of the lining of 2 of their holsters with only a few re-holsterings. First one was a fusion and the second one the normal ST with adjustable retention screws with the retention all the way out...

    AK experts:

I want to get a case of 7.62.

SGAmmo has the following Tula listed:

    124 gr FMJ
    124 gr SP
    122 gr HP
    124 gr HP

All of them run about the same price. Is there something majorly different about 122 vs 124 gr? Which one should I get?

On my way to bed last night, about 4am, I stopped by the reloading press and decided to give it another shot reaaaal quick. Backed the bullet seating adjustment out all the way and worked in by trial and error and used more force on seating the primer. Still double checking every powder charge on the scale. tada! First loaded round

Nice. When I'm working up a hot load I'll check every couple powder loads on the scale. Otherwise, when I'm loading some lighter stuff for practice or competitions I will only check the first load to make sure it's right, and the rest I just leave be. I trust the auto disk powder dispenser, it's close enough for my pistol stuff.

Anyways, you using gas checked bullets in there or just plain cast lead?

Soon to be owner checking in. All i need to do is get my fingerprints sent off to the FBI and all that technical business before they give me my license. I've decided that I'm definitely a revolver type of guy.

I've been debating and holding a few different possibilities and have definitely decided to get a smith and wesson. Maybe you guys could help me decide which is a more practical gun for my intended purposes. Also, I believe buying a quality gun, although more expensive, is worth every penny.

    Uses:
    Home protection
Something to bring with me hiking in case of any large animals/hostile people (very long shot obv but still...). I'm a big wilderness hiker and I go to some pretty far out in the middle of nowhere places.

I'm not too big on concealed carry personally. No problems with it for others, but that major additional responsibility at all times is not something I want to worry about.

Right now i'm leaning toward the NightGuard with CT grips. the .44 mag has more stopping power than the 38 special. I don't believe a 38s would be capable - though there are many debates online - of stopping a bear if necessary.

The only gun I haven't seen in the shop is the governor but I've heard mixed reviews.

I would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

If you bring it with you hiking, is that not concealed carry and a major additional responsibility at all times?
CT but planning to move out to Colorado soon.

In terms of your second question, I was talking about taking the gun to the store/movies/everyday life. It's definitely always a major responsibility while having a gun, but while hiking and camping out in the wilderness makes it more worth it for me. Again, I have zero problem with concealed carriers. It's just not for me except while hiking - so yes you are correct when you say it is.

How much do you plan on practicing with that S&W? Because a 44 mag of that size as a first gun and in general will not be something you're going to find much enjoyment shooting at the range. You might say, "well I'm not getting it for the range," but that's a faulty argument because you need to practice what you'll be carrying...Have you thought about a .357? You could shoot .38 out of it to practice at the range. This is just in my opinion, maybe someone else can chime in.

You can get pretty weak .44 spl to practice with, but .44 anything is pretty expensive. Are you willing and able to buy hundreds and hundreds of rounds of .44, minimum, just to start?

44 mag in my opinion is something you add when youve got your bases covered by other calibers already. You're probably never going to need your gun IRL, so you really should pick something that you can shoot for fun and maybe something a little less pricey than 44 mag, check out the S&W 686 plus. nice heavy .357 and can shoot .38 as well. SICK gun.

I totally understand that shooting at the range is critical to owning a gun. There is no point to owning a gun if you can't aim. I would, even if I set something up where I live (within regulations of course) practice regularly.

Not sure of the prices, but honestly I plan on owning the gun for the rest of my life and if a .44 would save my ass just once where a 38 couldnt, it would be worth it at any price.

It's really just a protection thing. Down the road I definitely plan on having a small collection of different guns.

Nice work. You should really get the hang of it after a dozen or so rounds. Seating the primers was pretty tricky for me too. You can really squeeze the bajeesus out of them. I goofed and had to deprime a live primer once. I was scared and expected the worst. So I took an old pillow and wrapped it around the press, thinking that it would help muffle the sound for the neighbors. No boom.

Just wait till you pull the trigger on your first reload. It's a bizarre feeling.

I've de-primed a pretty good amount of live primers, some by accident, some due to a jacked up primer. The jacked up ones usually happen when priming a crimped pocket and forcing it in. Now I just swage every single pocket, just in case. Never had one pop, but I'm always leery of it. I'm actually thinking about taking a primed case or two to the range and seeing how loud they are. Also would like to have an idea of what a squibb load might sound like, just in case I ever run into one.
    Do I even lift?

Get a .357 brah. It will shoot .38 ammo as well if you want.

First 50 round box complete. It did go a lot less-crappily after I got going. So many little things that can screw it all up that you wouldn't have even thought about having not done it before.

I did need to squeeze the bajeesus out of the primers. That's basically what I was missing there.

I already deprimed multiple live primers, including some on accident. Not a single fuk was given.

I have three choices, XD 40 compact, glock 23, and m&p40c. anyone have a glock 23 and love it? Im using mines as a main carry gun and to run with. Im trynafigure if theres any reason to get a glock over a springfield xd.
