Have any of you found a high volume program you like that isn't Shekio? I feel like I still have some linear progression to make before I move onto that.

In case you guys still care to know...
Well yea, he's my coach. So he was the one who first told me squat wide. Then to bring my stance in. Then to toss out DE days. Then to squeeze the glutes before squatting.
He can do a whole series on me.
I'd say he's a strong squatter at 165 but his bench and deadlift still have work. He use to be a 198er and his bench has dropped from all the weight cut. My other friend is a stronger 165er since they have about the same squat and deadlift but he benches 354. From the results I saw at IPF Worlds, they both would be competitive in squat, other friend would be competitive at bench, but they both would get destroyed by 100 lbs or more at deadlift.
I mean he has done his own programs for awhile. And he has given Smolov a couple runs. But what he has been trying lately is basically the John Broz method. Daily max squat and then backing off and doing 5 doubles or 5 triples for volume. It works for some time on the squat until no human being can handle the stress and you break down. Also, it doesn't work very well for bench and deadlift since you are so miserable and tired to do anything else. But he is one of those people that has trouble taking their own advice. He can easily tell Stig or me what to do and what not to do and be smart about our training. But it is hard for him to tell himself sometimes when something works or doesn't work and to quit before he kills himself.1372 @ 205

I've been wondering about the lack of spots in the vids as well. Freaks me out a little.
Also, saw one of the scariest/coolest things ever today at the gym. Jerry Obradovic, an old timer from westside, was narrow stance raw squatting with the spider bar to the box plus a manpon. He was at least 2 inches below parallel. He worked up to a single at 710, which basically looked like a good morning. He has one of the strongest backs I have ever seen. I wish we had a video.

I'd take her 1st pick in my Fantasy Ladies Football League. Lol at the outfits though, in for nip slips.
The only time there aren't spots are if someone doesn't want one or if we don't have enough people. For example, awhile back I had the bar slide off my back when I was setting up for a heavy squat and almost took out someone who was spotting. So for awhile I asked for no spot because I could just dump the bar if I failed. And for the guy getting stuck under the bench, it was his own fault that he didn't want to wait. We only had enough people to spot Stig in his squat suit, which is more dangerous. The kid thought he'd be fine on bench, luckily he doesn't bench much so he didn't hurt himself. But there are very few instances of that, I just looked at the youtube channel and can see people spotting in the vast majority of videos. I can post them here if you would like.Last edited by arian11; 09-18-2012 at 06:01 PM.

FYI, bb.com black theme is way better than mobile theme and fits to screen better than default.

Yep. There's quite a few 165ers out there pulling over 600 so he'd have trouble doing a lot.
He's definitely a strong squatter to be putting up close to 500 at that weight. But again, I just can't imagine putting myself through the torture of squatting daily unless it was for some ridiculous numbers......
Then to tell everyone else that DUP is optimal.....but not follow it. Sounds like he just wants to make money. That'd be like Louie Simmons running 5/3/1 while preaching about the conjugate system.
Nope. Link?

Well he does say in his video that there is no 1 perfect program or else everyone would be doing it. And he is always searching for something better so he experiments on himself first. But I think its pretty definitive that maxing out everyday would work for squat but could possibly hurt your other lifts. I was kind of surprised when I saw his video where he is trying to sell his programs. He's always given our team or friends of his programs for free. He never seemed to be about making money, he already has quite a bit. So I don't know. Maybe the whole Layne Norton doing his program and getting publicity gave him the idea to make money off it.

True. Though I wonder how much the little guys make. Like I know Jim Wendler makes a ton off 5/3/1 and I'm sure Layne does decent off his programming and nutritional advice. But I wonder how many clients he's actually made off this so far. I got another friend who started a company to give out programming and nutritional advice, mostly for the general population who want to get in shape. It will be interesting to see how much money he makes. Maybe we should all get together and make a company and website and have people pay us to tell them to do Starting Strength, lol.

Holy cow. That's some serious money for a cookie cutter program (no 5/3/1 hate, it did a lot for my lifts).
Simmons definitely brings in some money with all of the crazy equipment. overpriced t shirts. resistance bands. etc. And the books are pricey man. I think the book of methods is 50-60 bucks. Then you throw in some dvds and squat manuals and people really spend some cash.
