Man the voice actor for Hades is GOAT level. Done the bit where you find a GAIA backup, but the bit just before that when you see your old buddy Hades again. Legit felt creeped out by it, thought he was going to become super powerful again.
i like how they don't drag many characters from the first game into the second. Except for Varl who I don't care much for, find him a bit out of place for the world they're living in. So glad he went off with that Anura (sp) sloot and left Aloy alone to heal.

Yeah it does. I played the initial part which they make so you have to die and then I started my second life. When you pause it allows you to save progress.

Bruh I don't know much. Green orbs heal. Yellow ones I can use to purchase consumables? But then I also found a powerup that is linked to how many yellow orbs I have so in that case it's better to save them right. I guess I'll figure out more as I keep playing.

So I wanted to see just what the TV is doing in VRR. Ignore the trash exposure and quality, desperately need a new phone.
Anyways both videos are in Balanced mode with VRR on. Obviously VRR has no effect on videos saved to PS5 so it's a good way to see what VRR does. So this is from my phone with the TV handling VRR:

You'll notice that panning on the TV is a lot smoother compared to the raw PS5 video which moves more like a PS4 game at 40fps and no VRR. It eliminates tearing and judder and honestly feels like I'm playing at 60fps in balanced mode.
I found out VRR also applies to performance mode, so you can hit 80+fps without stutter/tearing which is pretty damn impressive. Pretty sure in resolution mode there's no VRR and it's locked to 30fps, but I couldn't see a difference between balanced and resolution mode so it's a no brainer to keep it on balanced for that better framerate.
DF explains why it improves so much in their Rift Apart video.
As a side note I went into that first cauldron expecting to get rekt but the 2 crocodile robots at the end were really easy using my blast javelin I got after completing an early side quest in Chainscrape

Mane, I am a fukking BEAST in Returnal.

Managed to beat the whole of level 1 in my first cycle. In the boss fight it came down to the wire where I had a sliver of health and could have been killed just by a b1tch slap. It was intense and my adrenaline was going. Also enjoying the mystery and story elements.

Since I haven't died yet, so just a question for anyone who knows. Let's say the boss had killed me, would I have to start all the way over from the first arena and go through different dungeons to reach the end again or would it be easier to get to the boss?

Anyways I'm in the new place with the red sand now so let's see how that goes. Fuking loving this game.

Don't think it has any graphic mode setting to change. But that's fine, it's extremely crisp and smooth. Got my ass handed to me many times in stage 2. Fuark this is gonna be a challenge. Had a blast today, gamed for hours. Highly recommended, the haptics and sound design and slickness are all 10's

HFW is shaping up to be in my top 5 games of all time. The story is getting so good. I'm able to explore the far west now, but still have a few more things to do in no mans land and a few side quests etc. Then I'll be getting those subordinates. I've levelled up nicely but it's still a challenge. Got my ass handed to me against a couple of Stalkers until I figured out their attacks. It became a snipe-off with me using my sharpshooter bow Vs them using their single shot long range attack, which takes me down to like 20% health in 1 hit jfl

HFW is shaping up to be in my top 5 games of all time. The story is getting so good. I'm able to explore the far west now, but still have a few more things to do in no mans land and a few side quests etc. Then I'll be getting those subordinates. Finally made it to the second boss in Returnal and was so close but got my angus split open. My goodness the intensity. Now I gotta start all over and I'm BIG MAD lol but won't lie these were some really fun fights.

It's encouraged to play all or most levels in each stage to continue collecting powerups because you don't wanna reach that guy while being weak. Honestly I think I just had a weapon I wasn't good with for that fight. Feels badman.

Ropecaster felt far weaker in this game compared to part 1. I didn't bother with them, even for ultra hard. I have good aim and with my legendary weapons maxed out, I was stunning and bringing down even the biggest flying boys in no time.

Without spoilers, can you tell me how soon I can unlock something that's gonna let me breathe underwater much longer? There's loads of areas even as far back as Chainscrape that I can't access because Aloy has the lungs of an 80 year old chain smoker.
Brb can sprint for infinity, holds breath for about 40 seconds.
I wandered into the desert west of the GAIA base and randomly found some people racing their mounts, so I did the race and came first hehe

slingshots are handy for inflicting elemental damage.. they fill the elemental damage meter fairly quickly. the explosive javelin is GOAT for hitting enemies with explosive components

apart from that, yeah, bows are 90% of the combat for me. the traps are great for enemies who charge at you too. i think they inflict more damage than any weapon

Without spoilers, can you tell me how soon I can unlock something that's gonna let me breathe underwater much longer? There's loads of areas even as far back as Chainscrape that I can't access because Aloy has the lungs of an 80 year old chain smoker.

I wandered into the desert west of the GAIA base and randomly found some people racing their mounts, so I did the race and came first hehe

there is a main quest where you will have to retrieve three "things" that are very far apart. you get the ability to breathe underwater while retrieving the second thing, but you can retrieve the second thing before the first. it just has a higher level requirement. the quest has the word sea in it. this happens early-ish in the game. i think the level requirement is 22

I don't use slings because of the heavy resources needed for ammo. It's insane. I just maxed out my legendary bows and they fill elementals really quickly. Don't even use the advanced elemental arrows cuz of resources. Normal elemental arrows on max legendary bows.. Especially the legendaries from NG+... fill the meter super quick.

@ Returnal, finally killed the 2nd stage boss last night and it was a near spiritual experience. Palms sweaty, arms spaghetti. Was literally down to a sliver of health again and I really did NOT want to start over because I was having such an amazing run. Haven't had tense moments like this since buying my PS5. It hits different when the stakes are so high. What a game man, what a game.

side with Drakko or Yarra or neither? I usually play as pacifist as possible to keep options open but Yarra rubbed me the wrong way, felt she was incompetent and Drakko seemed like he was telling the truth so I ended that bish. Imagine letting people die of thirst. She was rude af to Aloy as well.

old hag had some other tribeswoman killed. When I tracked her down I let her know that no one is going to remember her and no one is going to plant her seeds either. Her dying words were, 'SoMeOnE wIlL'. I just wish I could have killed her before she suicided.

Pouch upgrades are proving to be a ballache. I've found it easier by just assigning a job to all of them, so at least when I'm on my travels I know if I just happen to be in an area with the animal I need to kill.
Cheers for the help on the breathing thing. Blown away at this game tbh. There's just so much dialog, animations, just stuff going on all the time around you. Must have taken an obscene amount of time and resources to make

I feel like both of them were kunts. The first time around I picked Yarra because I felt like Drakko was just a hot head who wanted to be leader but shouldn't because he was kind of stupid. Yarra on the other hand lies to her people because she's afraid of losing her power. In my second playthrough I picked Drakko and later on in the game you'll meet which leader you chose again, Drakko seems more likeable and the more I think about it, despite being a hot head he didn't really do anything deceitful.

You're getting stuff done man. I don't find rockbreakers to be as impressive this time around, they kind of let them fall to the side. When I get, the new heavy machines are all impressive. I did the same thing with my pouches and weapons, just create the job for it, as it directs you exactly where you need to go. One weapon tip I suggest is to not upgrade your bow. It's chit. Wait till you get a purple or orange one that you like, then do your upgrades. Same goes for armor imo. This game just sucks you into the world.


I remember posting a similar sentiment while I was doing my playthrough of how much effort I know they must have spent on details in this game...especially the motion capture for all the dialog scenes.

I already have a few green weapons that I just don't use and need to sell. I float around 2000-3000 shards at all times tbh. I try not to buy anything unless I feel significantly underpowered, plus the menus get pretty complicated and there's a lot of micromanaging involved. Comparing stats between outfits, weapons, coils, upgrades, skills etc. My only long range weapon is a sharpshooter bow and I never have the correct resources to upgrade it. It still works pretty good on its base level, it just takes forever to draw lol. The propelled javelin skill has been a god send for keeping distance from heavy enemies though and that's only a green level javelin from Chainscrape. I have a glue sling now too but have yet to try it out.
I wanted a widemaw tusk but the opening to fire at it is so small, I ended up killing it before I could knock the tusk off. Might just try and buy one instead.
