I don't know anyone that has done viral loads on any large scale. The methods in use are all qualitative. The best you can do is make an inference from Ct values.

Other than very few exceptions (ex. anti toxin vaccines) any vaccine that reduces disease severity is going to reduce within-host pathogen load and the probability of onward transmission. SARSCOV2 vaccines are pretty good at stopping infection entirely.

J&J shot recipients may need a booster

People who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine may need a booster shot to fend off some of the worrisome coronavirus variants now spreading worldwide, a study suggests. A "significant fraction" of blood samples from recipients of the J&J shot had low neutralizing antibody levels against the Delta, Delta Plus, Beta and Lambda variants, according to a report posted on Wednesday on the medical website

Lol the 50% antivaxxers thought they could escape the mRNA, nope, not this time. Delta Gamma Lambda Epsilon is going to get that Pfizer in you or you will be shunned.

Follow up on this - everyone was vaccinated except one sibling.
They all have covid and are getting better but the one who was not vaccinated is bedbound and in bad shape / fever / congestion / body aches like never before but still recovering at home.

Father in law is better and felt it like the worst flu he may have had in the past and already getting better couple days after.

I honesty expected this to be the case when I first got my shot. Just tell me when and I'm there for my microchip battery change.

Another IRL covid story from a friend that works at a hospital. Dr got vaccinated, his wife and kids didn’t. They went to Vegas recently wife and one kid got sick on the return home. Wife ended up in the hospital pretty sick. Dr was still going to work because he was vaccinated so no need to post known exposure quarantine (cdc). So he’s going to work daily then gets pretty sick with covid after going to work for 3 days, probably spreading dat der Delta to many others at the hospital. He’s not the hospital, wife is doing better soon to be released after a few days stay.

Trust the science / experts lol.

She also mentioned she’s never seen as many newborns babies dying as she has in the last couple months. Might not be related, but she said it’s about double (she works in labor and delivery and NICU).

Well, that's encouraging After my second Moderna shot 2 days ago, I was waiting for some sides. Just a sore shoulder at injection. Still sore but better.

Yeah IMHO anyone that has not had COVID or is at an advanced age or has underlying conditions is better off getting vaxxed, even if the protection from infection is only 39% (Israeli study on Pfizer) the protection from severe disease appears to be pretty significant. Glad you didn’t have any sides.

Well healthcare workers were the first ones to get vaxxed so they will probably be the first ones to start losing the effects of the vaccine, or maybe the protection is not as strong anymore as it was in the beginning?
Eventually we all need to get another shot or we will get covid, or we can hope not to get it if we're lucky. Why would the virus go anywhere? Why are people so intensely talking about this vaccine, like it's life and death decision? Maybe because there's no long term data about it. It's funny but it would be a logical fallacy to claim that there's no long term harm but that would go having covid as well. But we have no long term data of any of the covid vaccines so it's kind dumb to be freaking out any specific ones at this point.

Probably a combination of things. The delta seems to be different enough to increase breakthrough infections but not necessarily bad outcomes in vaccinated people.

Correct there’s no long term data for the vaccines or covid. Obviously having covid has some immediate cardiovascular effects, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if some of the damage could be long term.

Don’t be upset that the Johnson juice that was squirted in you is not as effective as it was believed to be. There will be plenty of opportunities for the mRNA vaccines. We just bought 200,000,000 more with our future tax dollars. We should have enough to vaccinate everyone twice, multiple times.

Naa I do not even know about how effective it's supposed to be. If they start to report that J&J will make you gain 200lbs and lose all your hair, I'll start paying attention.

Why are they buying those vaccines if people don't want to get vaccinated? They just waste them then?

If you gain 200 I’d recommend moderna, bando can confirm miracle diet effects.

That’s what I don’t understand. You’ve got a stockpile, you’ve got increasing hesitancy / refusal by the unvaccinated, and studies from other countries showing that it’s less effective, all at the same time…I think I’d rather not buy another 200 million doses, maybe see if it could be tweaked to be more effective for current variants. One of the major advantages of mRNA technology is the ability to easily modify it for different strains. I think it’s called a bailout to buy unused inventory. Idk.

If it's a sequester or a standing order, that may be less of a problem.

Well we would be at over a billion purchased at two each of them we’d need 670 million. I believe this purchase has the option for upgraded or children’s doses. Still seems like we don’t need that many if total vaccination rate is at 50% and we have more than enough already to vaccinate everyone. Plus the price was $24.50 / dose instead of $19…

Depends on whose money the buyer is spending. It’s not their own money now is it?

A wheelchair that costs about $200 to make gets sold wholesale for $500 or more and someone was saying the billing for it is $6000 or so…makes you wonder

(Note: the amounts above are probably off a bit…that’s what I heard from a very reliable source)

Buying in large amounts like this usually come with substantial discounts. On the flip side, penalties are triggered if you don't take the full purchase amount.

Maybe also why children are more susceptible to heart damage since they are still growing and vulnerable.

I’m familiar with governmental contracts & purchasing regulations (have to deal with them myself). Wouldn’t think we would be paying nearly $5 per dose more for something that is now seemingly less effective, especially when we already have more than enough to vaccinate the entire country.

People love conspiracy theories Thea days more than ever. I think the internet and spread of misinformation and easy virtual gathering of like mixed people has really shifted society in this direction.

When full FDA approval comes I am going to start getting annoyed with the couple friends and family in my life if they are still on the anti-vax train. I personally don't understand the emergency use argument but do recognize it's a thing and people will feel how they feel.

Yeah, it depends on who's negotiating. My lab is on the hook for a 7 figure standing order made more than a year ago for covid test kits that we're only halfway through with testing rates dropping off a cliff. Definite panic order.

For government usually things go out for competitive bid, unless you only have one manufacturer that is willing to sell direct, then it becomes a sole-source contract. Not much negotiating goes on in my experience other than mutually agreeable terms and conditions which usually just involves the lawyers for the agency and vendor sending redline edit documents back and fourth. I’m sure this is different than most agreements / purchase orders.

Lots of panic buying took place. Lots of fake goods at insanely inflated prices happened too (I.e. Chinese knock-off 3M respirators @$7/ea etc.). My state bought like a hundred million dollars worth of imposter ppe in some shady deal at like a truck stop last spring. At least we have the tax dollars pouring in from legal rec weed to pay for it all.

Wait what? Wtf? No accountability? They can’t find the seller? Money just evaporated?

Went to a high school basketball game earlier today. Entire campus, fuking made out of beautiful limestone - looked rather new like less than 10 yrs old construction. About 70% of the limestone was mildewed - meaning contractor did not seal the limestone properly at the end of the project. I was wondering why the school is not having the contractor go back and fix it. Probably took a few years to get that bad. Smh

Smh
The Illinois PPE snafu was like really shady. Some Chinese guy happened to have a warehouse full of stuff hospitals needed, IEMA and the state literally bought it in the truck / with the trailer and it was all junk. I’m sure the guy was smart enough to get the money in a way that the state couldn’t get it back. Actually IIRC it was a cash deal. Wouldn’t accept a check, state had to really do some whacky stuff to get the cash. It was in the news here when it happened, but quickly suppressed.

Yep same thing with shoddy work fly by night contractors. If the building passes the inspection and the vendor is paid the deal is done. Although it’s not uncommon for the contractor to build it as it was designed. They don’t care that the design has major flaws, those are just change order opportunities and it’s more money for them to install things incorrectly but as drawn, only to tear out and replace, than to say hey this is not right, might want to have the architect take another look at this…

That being said since I had the J&J shot on april 1st I have had a hunger that cannot be vanquished. I had gotten down to 224 lbs at that time and was easily managing weight, now I never feel full and cannot stop snacking ALL the time and have gotten up to 262 lbs which is my heaviest ever.
