Alex Smith is a 31 year old, 11-year pro. It's not going to happen. He's competent and avoids mistakes, but he's TOO risk-averse. The only way I can see him changing a lot is if he played under someone like Bruce Arians who is really aggressive.

Alex Smith should be rented out, year-by-year, to teams that are otherwise decent, but have a gaping hole at QB. Like the Texans this year.
