    Am I putting too much dextrose in PWO

    I know this is the exercise forum, but no one reads it. I use 1/3 cup of dextrose in my PWO shake along with 1 scoop of whey. I am 130 lbs. I just got done reading some threads where the people where taking 40g, about 1/4 of a cup, and they were 160-180 lbs. Am i using too much you think?

    I use to take about 70g during my bulk. I went from 147 lbs to barely touching 170 lbs from Sept 15th to January 15th. It all depends on how your body reacts to the shock and what you think you need. I know a lot of people who're completely anti-dextrose. I'm going to cut down on it PWO on my next bulk to see if it makes a big difference in my LBM and fat gains.

    I use the ON scoop that comes with the whey, and my recipe is 32 oz. water, 2 scoops whey, 1 scoop maltodextrin, 1 scoop dextrose.

    Ok here is some math:

    Fact: from the product label it says 1.25 tsp = 4g

    Calculation:

    therefore 4g/1.25 tsp = 3.2g/tsp (3.2 grams per teaspoon).


    Fact: 1 cup = 48 tsp.

    Calculation:

    48tsp*3.2g/tsp = 153.6 g in a cup.


    Therefore, there are 3.2g of dextrose in a teaspoon and 153.6g dextrose in a cup of pure dextrose. Now all you have to do is use these facts to figure out your serving.

    153.6g = 1 cup

    153.6g/2 = 76.8g in a 1/2 cup

    153.6g/3 = 51.2g in a 1/3 of cup

    153.6g/4 = 38.4g in 1/4 of cup



    correct me if I am wrong but at least this is the type of algorithm to get to the answer.

    find a home brewery or bakery supply store and you can get dex or malto for dirt cheap. keep in mind theres no reason other than taste to use both.

    all of that math is useless...go buy a food wt scale...the one i have is accurate to the Gram and does Oz too if i want.

    Thats way too little carbs for post workout..

    depending on how hard you workout..1 hr of lifting burns about 300-400kcal which is around 80g of sugar to replenish

    if you dont take enough sugar in your PWO shake, the whey protein in it is wasted as your body converts it to sugar instead

    u shld be taking in around 80g of dextrose

    So would this be acceptable post work out nutrition:

    immeaditly after weights- 1 scoop ON Whey, 1/3 cup dextrose, 3.75g creatine mono.

    1hr. later- 3/4 cup oatmeal, 1/2 banana, 1/3 cup blueberries, 7 egg whites, 1/2 tbsp. flax oil

    Interesting. I've just begun the dextrose intake PWO. Are you sure about the 80g? Seems like a lot. Also, I got my dextrose through sweet tarts. Is that okay? Thanks for the help (ps... out of time to do a thorough search so I apologize in advance for the pedestrian level question).
