Hey girls, just wondered how much time and money you spend each month on hair and beauty products, salon visits etc.
I don't consider myself high maintenance but it really seems to add up, hair cuts, colours, hair removal, make up, tan. It's like a never ending cycle really and seems a but unfair sometimes when men can spend £5 on a haircut and that's it. Also a bit annoyed with how long it takes to get ready to go out, the expectation of being a women and looking good.
Just wondered if you have any cost or time saving solutions also and what your monthly spend it.

How Much Money & Time On Beautification?

I think I spend about $50 on makeup every 6 months. I get my sister (hairdresser) to cut my hair every 6 months. I spent massive amounts building my home Oly gym though, probably $10k+
My only advice is be happy with your natural hair colour, tanning is a waste of money and health, and a cheap razor works just fine
I think the cost and pressure is mostly what women do to themselves, isn't it? Let's be real - how many girls would rather be an average (or worse) looking blond with tan skin, than a good looking pale brunette? A lot. We all know who those girls are and see them out & about. It's a shame because I'm sure they'd be much more attractive by working with their natural beauty rather than trying to 'fight it'.

Chopped my hair to a bob recently, I'm growing out my natural hair color. Hair cut= 60$
Wax my own legs, pluck own eyebrows=9$
Loreal mascara=10$
White strips=40$
Work outside and use brazilian tan wipes=5$
I'm pretty low maintenance. I hardly ever wear make up except on the weekends when I go out. The only thing really costly in my budget is gym membership. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.

I think it adds up if you let it add up, nom sayin?
I dont dye my hair, naturally the way it is, gets cut whenever needed by my friend who is a hairdresser, I dont tan, Im euro and just go outside for 5 mins I dont wear makeup, only on the weekends when I go out, wax myself, do my own brows etc the only thing that I cant go without it is paying for my gym membership every month and a massage every month! Am a sucker for a nicely packaged moisturiser or body wash though! My friends and I call this the "cupcake" effect, so pretty and packaged so nicely it draws you in and makes you wanna buy it!

I feel like I spend loads even though I'm really not one of those girls. I get my hair cut every 6 weeks because I have a fringe, I dye my own hair & do my eyebrows. I use fake tan but that's not cheap for a good brand. I like natural products with no chemicals and they cost more.
I do feel like almost everyone is fighting what they are to look the same. It's a strange thing but when I go natural I feel underdressed compared to these other high maintenance women.Anniepocalypse a Superhero in the making.

OP,
I dye my own hair: 4/year x $8= $32
Makeup: (eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, Benefits powder): ~$75/yr.
But I do spend a lot of money on waxing and keeping my skin looking young:
Waxing at the esthetician (eyebrow, bikini waxing): $250/year
Facials at the esthetician: $300/year
Facial cleansers/exfoliating scrubs/lotions from esthetician: $250/year
So: Around $900/year
This is a lot of money, but there are lots of things i don't spend tons of money on--for example I shop for clothes on consignment and ebay. I do home repairs myself or find a friend to help me.
I don't tan (not intentionally). I don't spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning. I don't wear a lot of make up.
The time I spend getting a facial is relaxing for me. So, you could get by cheaply if you dye your own hair, buy inexpensive makeup and do home spa treatments.

I color my own hair and always have. Never had it professionally done. Use a tinted foundation and very little makeup at all. Use Dove shampoo on my hair. Have not used gel or hairspray or any styling products in over 7 years. I pluck my eyebrows regular so I don't have to wax. As for the other areas... I shave. Never had a facial. I tan only in Jan and Feb which is 20.00 unlimited month. after that I get enough on the weekends hanging out at the river or the coast.
I am about as low maintenance as they come. I can get up shower and be ready within 30mins. And that is with blowdrying this long hair that is down to my waist.
I would estimate maybe $300 - $400 per year for everything.**DIRTYSOUTHCREW**

I have very, very, very thick hair. I can't use products on it because it tends to make it oily and actually Dove is the only shampoo I like to use because it doesn't build up on my hair. I wash my hair every single day. I keep my hands in it alot during the day because it tends to get in my face and I slick it behind my ear. I keep it down at work but when I leave it is in a ponytail. It has long layers in it so it is pretty easy to style. Blowdry and may hit it with straightener depending on the weather.

Yeah, funny I think i'm just lazy and cheap.
I don't color my hair because i'm too lazy to keep up on it and way too cheap to pay somebody $100 to do it for me
I'm growing my hair out so haven't cut/trimmed it in, oh gosh... probably a good year
I just use a regular shaver with bodywash as the cream, I put spf and mascara on and let my hair air dry.
On weekends i'm just as lazy unless we're going out. On occassion i'll throw some eyeshadow on and put foundation on
Like others though... I spend way more than I want to on gym memberships and shoes.Every time you tell me how you should've, could've or would've it reminds me how I do, did and will. Your defeatist attitude and lack of willpower pushes me harder to not be like you.
You can call me callous, egotistical, delusional or vain. I am fully aware that I am nowhere near perfect. But despite your detraction's and insults, the fact of the matter is that Im doing what you wish you were, to one day become your complete antithesis.

At home dye- €7 per dye, every 6-8 weeks.
Conditioner/Shampoo - €6 every 2 months
Gym - €46 per month
Shaving/ Cream- maybe €6 - €10 a month?
Eyebrows - €12 every 8 weeks
Tan - so very rarely, comes in at €5 every 6 months
Make up - so very rarely worn - umm maybe €150 a year?
Perfume - €50 a year (I get gifted good perfume, only wear it going out or to work, it lasts. Buy it on sale too. boo ya)
Moisturiser / Hair taming stuff - €8 a month
Skin "treats" (facepack, conditioning shower stuff from lush, bath stuff) - €50 a year
Hair cuts? Ummmm I don't get them as often as i should - but have a place thats like €20, they don't speak english but pointing at pictures works. Maybe 2/3 times a year?

Ive always cut and dyed my own hair. Recently cropped it into a pixie which I maintain at home. Will also save money on dye as ill use one box instead of two.
Tanning costs me about $8 a week to maintain, $24 if im building colour.
I buy a lot of makeup because I love it, I love going from vintage glam on Saturday night to beachy bronze for sundays at the beach. id say I spend $500 a year on makeup.
do my own eyebrows, pedis, manis and hair removal is epilator or razor both supercheap.

I cut my boys hair cause i'm cheap like that... but also i'm a makeup fiend... but I went crazy and spent way too much awhile ago so I feel like i'm set for a long time!! Where are you buying your makeup? Also, don't your tanning places have like unlimited monthly plans? $24 a week is crazy. But I bet you're really pretty and tan (semi-homo) Tried the epilator felt like I was getting shocked, lol got it for my bikini area and was way to scared to even attempt it.
We could run off together someday and maybe make two makeup collections become one?? Just sayin
Edit: I'm not homo because this sounds pretty full blown homoLast edited by UgotItbad; 07-11-2012 at 10:00 AM.

I hope your husband appreciates the smell of Dove shampoo like I do!! No homo but when I use Dove shampoo/conditioner, I could sit all day and sniff my own hair lol.
Weirdo alert...
Please just promise me to never use the epilator on your bikini area. *Shutters* Reminds me of one of my drunken Friday night ideas to wax my own bikini line.
Lets just say tears were shed and the neighbours thought I was murdering a cat. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.
