My wife works at Wally World and she has to work the next 4 days, whereas I have the next 5 days off Wally Worlds reward to those who have to work Turkey day is on Dec 7th they get 20% off anything they buy, normally we get 10% off anyways. Well her car needs tires soon & I can save $100 easily by getting them that day.

I'm torn on this. First, I think it's one thing to expect emergency/essential personal like firefighters, police, nurses, and the military to work on holidays. It's another to expect retail employees to work. That said, gas stations need to stay open as people are traveling that day. . . and they are retail, so . . .
I remember years ago going to Walmart with my mother and aunts on Thanksgiving Day. For whatever reason we had lunch that day instead of supper which is abnormal for my family. After the meal we all piled in the care and headed to Walmart (don't judge us, we're country folk with nary another thing to do). The store was open until 6 pm that day and then they closed down until the Black Friday opening at 5 or 6 the next morning. I may be wrong, but I think that Walmart has been open every year since then on Thanksgiving. If that's the case, I don't really understand why the employees are suddenly so upset about it all.Simp's Back: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=165133671&page=1

Black Friday is a scam and possibly an abomination.
The most important imagery on Thanksgiving Day:
- video of people beating the crap out of each other to get into a store first
- video of long lines at the airport
- video of bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate
- video of a guy burning down his house with a turkey fryer

I hope people reaize that the poster is misleading. The Walmart employees are not walking because they have to work.I'm open to any suggestions and have a difficult time accepting limitations without an honest effort on my part, you can count on that!

No shit. If times are that hard, and they have been in the past, then I don't need to be blowing cash on a bunch of stupid plastic garbage. Otherwise, if I have the money, then I better be saving a helluva lot more over the duration of the day than I would billing out at my hourly rate for the same amount of time.

Same here, but I learned a long time ago that everything is relative; it's relatives who do this stupid $hit .
But seriously, ahem, I'm with ya. But truly, it's people who maybe don't have the means that we have that participate in these type events. There are alos just "cheap bastards" who do it.....and there are others who do it for the sport! . Either way, it's a great American tradition.
I think it's insane, but that doesn't make me right, either!

Charlie, calm down!
And btw, no joke...my truck was supposed to have come yesterday...and it didn't. I'm talking the majority of BF goods on it. We closed at 6pm tonight (early) and no truck. I just off-loaded an 18-wheeler with one other employee 2hrs ago .
It really sucked...... after having had 3 beers and having to stop for nearly 3hrs
Oh, and I scheduled myself off at 1PM today...and didn't leave until 4:30 to begin with, lofl (not really LOLing )

I realize some people don't have the same options as me, but the "great deals" really aren't worth it to me. With my job, I would come out ahead working overtime so some one else could spend time with their family, and paying the regular price later.
Standing in line for 12 hours to save 100 dollars means I essentially made 6 dollars an hour. Even at minimum wage you would beat that.
I guess its kind of like hunting or fishing. It isn't the money you save, it's the bragging rights. We all have our sports. Mine is hunting and that's what I'll be doing Black Friday.
