"Crossfit" as a concept is pretty sound. One of my good friends is well versed in it and is building a firefighter focused (he is a firefighter, hence the specificity) program with some crossfit principles in it and PL theories (undulating periodization to peak around historically high periods of fire calls thru the year. f'ing amazing stuff he's doing right now).
Glassman's Crossfit is an abomination. He has no idea what he's doing in any sense of fitness. I don't think there's any disagreement there though. If you can find a crossfit box that has a really really good trainer team on it that do their own WODs, you could really benefit from it.

At my last meet the two strongest girl lifters were both Crossfitters. They trained for the meet for one week and both qualified for RAW Unity with 700+ totals. They both squatted 250+, benched 150+, and deadlifted 275+ at 132 with no belt. After talking to them we found out that one of them was a coach and the other had been Crossfitting for 5 years. They told us that they focus on strength workouts using the conjugate method in addition to the conditioning WODs. If every box was run like their's was there'd be a lot more respect for Crossfit I think.
If I wasn't such a Sheiko whore I'd totally do Crossfit for GPP. As it stands most of the WODs are far too intense for me to do on my off days."Nutrition for powerlifting: If you are serious about it, you will eat f*cking everything and get strong as $hit." - HamburgerTrain

General physical preparedness. Think of a firefighter, army guy, etc. needing to be able to carry / drag / run odd distances and weights instead of the specificity of a powerlifter, for example. The Crossfit hate comes from the WODs that Glassman puts up on the actual crossfit site. They don't focus on progression or anything, it's just chaotic garbage that causes a ton of injuries. For example, you don't do high box jumps for time, especially as a relative newb. You might as well put a knife to your achilles tendon.

Strong box squats JDB. Have you thought of having bench first more often to try and keep the weight heavier for that lift?

I have but... I think what I will have to do is after my cut do a bench focused program once I am doing a recomp. The fact that I always bench after squating or pulling probably is a factor in my lagging bench, but I also feel that squating or pulling first every day has yielded massive benefits in regaining size. So there has been a trade off. My squats do not seem to care that I am cutting, so I might as well ride them out as far as they will go even on a cut. My 2x2 today was easier, with better box contact than my 405x2 video just a couple days ago.
At least my chest isn't lagging with my lagging bench though. Actually Alex, now that you have pics do you see what I mean about my chest in general, due to my ribcage overshadowing everything else and why I am reluctant to put any focus on it?Last edited by JasonDB; 05-29-2012 at 08:26 AM.

Agreed.
What doesn't cause injury is relatively useless for strength building, leaving a third section of the crossfit pie that genuinely AND safely increases GPP. Though most of these techniques come from training regimens for wrestling, boxing, etc that have been around forever.---

Yeah I am not worried about water from sodium... water weight equals a fraction higher of a TDEE. Water matters only for after pics. Yeah I am hoping to step on the scale at 229 end of the week. Just ate my last meal, a lot of carbs and I am sweating like a pig.
2700-2800 cals today, 250g brotein, only 50g of fat (a good chunk of it from curry sauce) as I ate fairly brotastic today... chicken, white rice, curry, red bell peppers... but I did squeeze in a small piece of chocolate and some real licorice (the joys of being in Europe).
I might do some pulling tomorrow after eating less fat and more carbs tonight. I will see how I feel, if not I'll speed squat.

Word that is my mentality right now. If I slack off for a day and some of these others in the comp don't I will lose, and I hate losing anything. All joking aside there are some worthy competitors and some of those before shots made me realize I better go 100% every day of the 3 months, because I see multiple people who can win the cutting contest. I will not name names, but I've got to be on top of my **** because a couple of the people are going to be insanely hard to beat if they finish. I love competitions of any type. I'm insanely competative, but I respect those who I compete against, in any endevour.

Right on.
Mental focus everyday. Being competitive is good. That's what it takes.
When I cut for shoots, I usually end up going to bed hungry.....I literally start laughing out loud at the hunger...lol.
Hunger aint gonna beat me. NOPE. Being tired aint gonna beat me.

Workout
Deadlifts... after ME box squats yesterday in a deficit this was a really bad idea
405x5
515x.....0.... I was going to try to hit 2-3 reps and it stuck on the floor
405x2x5... lower back cramping... all lower body work is out. I should have done speed squats instead.
Incline Bench (have to make up for the crappy pulling)... have some delt and tricep doms from the barbell complexes and heavy pressing but going for it anyway.
205x6
225x5
205x8 tris, delts, pecs all cramping
Face Pulls
225x3x10
Alternating dumbbell curls
#48x2x8
Overall volume was less than I might have liked but a lot of cramping going on, will make up for it with conditioning work.
Barbell complexs
push press -> front squat -> barbell row -> RDL 115x5 sets my goal on these by the end of my cut is to do 10x10 on the entire complex.
Farmers walks high volume.
Kneeling ab work.
Going to go as low as 2500-2600 calories today. I have enough bodyfat to support a 1300-1350 calorie deficit at the max, and at least a short time of really hard cutting might help get me a one up in this competition as I am the fattest person in the befores. I'm running a high risk of being the fattest in the afters also. ;-)
Thoughts from today's session:
-I've done too much heavy box squating and pulling so need a couple days of no heavy work on my posterior chain.
-Speed squats for a couple days. I'm doing so much pressing between my heavy work and my barbell complexs that I have very little room for tricep isos.
-Every few days I may do a bro-scupting day for some of my areas that need improvement before my conditioning work instead of my power work. I can get away with only doing 5 days of really heavy work a week. Concentration curls, incline flyes and side laterals... so ****ing ****gy-time. If I wasn't preping for photos I would say someone should shoot me in the head for even considering doine eunuch crap like this. However I will sacrifice to win... fortunately HRT will keep me from losing testosterone production by doing such massively homosexual/effeminate "lifts".
-No pulling for 7 days. Box squats can carry me as a replacement while I recover enough to pull heavy again.Last edited by JasonDB; 05-30-2012 at 03:38 AM.

Yeah sadly I got my big water drop the first two weeks of my cut so I am not going to get many swooshes from this point. The contest is basically 13 weeks for me as I entered the first day... if I can drop 1.5-2 lbs every week I should end up about 210... maybe 12% bf. I might be overly optimistic but I'll give it 100%.

Yeah but pics have been up almost a week. I honestly expected him to say something within the first day. I actually expected trolling from a couple others who dislike me on the forum (not really Nut Misc peeps), and figure it is only a matter of time, but I knew that when I entered the contest. However this contest is a great opportunity for me to silence detractors, as I've gone from being sick, massively fat and weak as a kitten to being decently strong, having a solid amount of LBM... and now I need to lean out, bring up some weak points and then continue on with my journey of self improvement and strength gains. Negative comments from others fuel me to push harder. One reason I got big to begin with was due to members of my family laughing when I started training who said I would never be as big as this person or that person. When someone tells me I am incapable of doing something it drives me to prove them wrong.
So Ryan tell me I can't reach 10% bf or an 800 lbs deadlift that is beyond my capabilities. Help a brotha out.
