Hey, So as im starting to bulk im going to start making my own home made shakes. Preferably high in calories as im skinny and when i eat a lot i get full and its a real effort to eat more. Heard that shakes don't fill you up as much so going to try taking them to see if they help. So any suggestions on what ingredients i should use ? i don't really care much for taste ... the disgusting stuff is the best for you right. Although if it tastes good its a plus as it'll be easier to drink.
Cheers

If you want to pack on some serious mass, a good shake recipe would be
16oz gatorade
2oz water
50g protein powder
1 Large Egg w/shell & yolk raw
1/2 cup any flavor ice cream
1/2 cup brown rice raw
10 almonds
2 spoon fulls of peanut butter
3 tbsp olive oil (tons of calories, good fats)
1oz cooked cold chicken breast
it may sounds disgusting but trust me, its killer

I use:
500ml Skim milk (180 calories)
1 cup oats (300 calories)
4 tablespoons peanut butter (400 calories)
1 banana (100-120 calories)
This is about 1000 calories, and actually tastes rather good. You can use whole milk for more calories if you want, and adding chocolate whey protein makes it taste even better and obviously adds more protein, I just don't usually use it because it's expensive and I'm cheap

Homemade weight gainer > store bought ones
Store bought ones require you to use around 300+g of powder PER SHAKE. This only gives you around 15-20 serves in a 12lbs bag/tubs/whatever else they come in. For around $40+. Yes $40 is 'cheap' but I'd rather spend that money, plus a few extra dollars, on a standard tub of powder which gives me around 80 serves (each serve containing 24g of protein). Example: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html (5lb tub)
IMO homemade weight gainers taste so much better and are the better choice. My 2 cents
Ingredients for homemade shake Include:
1 cup rolled oats
750ml full cream milk
1-2 scoops standard protein powder
1 large ripe banana
1-2 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup skim milk powder
3 ice-cubes (to cool the drink)
Any other fruit you may want
Two scoops of ice-cream (optional)
1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
Blend well and store in a pre-chilled thermos. EnjoyLast edited by N4J4R; 07-23-2011 at 12:59 AM.

1. weight gainer powders are essentially crap. It is just protein shakes shoved with carbs and extremely thick/solid and gross. You can easily just take a protein shake and eat oatmeal cookies
2. imp, your body does no absorb raw eggs very well, eating rice uncooked will make them expand in your stomach and could cause problems, and frankly not only is it incredibly stupid, but incredibly disgusting
3. you can bulk and still enjoy food brah
