Alex Smith and the 49ers need to have a breakup.
I wish him luck but he shouldn't stay here.

Oh I've been here.
The problem I have with these "fans" booing the guy is he's done EVERYTHING he could to play well for this team.
He's just not that good but a big reason for that could be the coaches who have screwed him over.
Mike Nolan started this BS by taking him to be a game manager. Alex Smith was excellent at Utah but everyone knew it was a gimmicky offense and he would need serious coaching and time to be a good NFL qb.
49ers drafted him because he was obedient and a nice guy. Well it turned out it was also a downfall of his. He was too nice and took sh*t when he shouldn't have. The guy came back when his shoulder was trash and it was a terrible decision.
If you look at his career it goes like this.
2005 - terrible season had like 1TD to 11INT but offense had no talent at all and he was thrown in against the best pass rush that year - Indy where he had a terrible game and also fugged up his knee. One of the worst rookie seasons ever
2006 - first QB in niners history to take every offensive snap. Everyone was excited because he took a HUGE step forward and had a pretty decent season and the offense played well under Norv Turner.
2007 - Norv Turner hired late so they promote Jim Hostler from within - terrible OC. Alex goes 2-1 and actually has his most impressive game that season against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Gets hurt against Seattle - ends up coming back before the shoulder is healed because Nolan rushes him out there and just looks terrible. That's when the fans really started hating on him.
2008 - IR, shoulder never healed right yet he still stuck around with the team while rehabbing and helping the other qbs.
2009 - came in about halfway through the season after Singletary benched Hill and put up his best numbers to date with inconsistent playcalling - one game they'd open it up and Alex would look great, next week they'd turtle up again and run Singletary's ball control bull and he'd look bad.
2010 - I think we all know what happened this season.
The thing with Alex is he's just not that good but any 49er fan who boos him should be kicked in the nuts. The guy was ruined by this franchise and instead of taking his #1 overall money and running like many other busts he took a pay cut, re-signed with the team and tried his best to make up for his bad play.
There are plenty of players who have great talent but they're terrible teammates and just don't give a f*ck. Alex Smith was not one of those guys. He shouldn't be getting booed left and right. I can understand boos if he's at least playing terrible but he had his best game in a long time last Sunday and they boo with every incompletion.
Pathetic.

Alex Smith is a big reason why I wanted a HC like Harbaugh.
I mean seriously could we have had a worse person around to coach Smith? I don't think it's a coincidence how much better he looked in his sophmore season. I can't help to think if we had a guy like Harbaugh who knows how a QB thinks and has coached up qbs before would've had him playing the right way.
I don't know if he ever would've been one of the best in the game but he certainly could've been on the level of a David Garrard.

I think Smith is a solid backup QB, it's just he was in the worst possible situation his whole career

I think Alex would probably want to move on due to the razor thin margin of error he gets from the fan base.
After his first incompletion fans will boo the guy.
I'd be confident Harbaugh would be able to make him better but I'm not sure how much better he could make him with all the crap Nolan/Singletary pulled. That's why I think it's best for both sides to part ways.

what do you guys think of cam newton? do you think Harbaugh would like him? could we get him with the 7th pick?
-
01-08-2011, 11:05 AM #3135
Not a question you can really ask now imo.
Newton has some question marks but some of them will come out in the offseason. I think the big question will be his off the field stuff.
Most of the guys with supposed first round grades in this draft need coaching. So the question becomes #1 who will be available at the 7th pick and #2 which guy has the best tools/intangibles and will be the best teammate and takes to coaching the best.
I think Newton can be a pretty good player with solid coaching and I would feel much better with Harbaugh as our coach if we were to draft him. He definitely offers a lot with his size, skills but he will need a lot of work on his mechanics. His completion % is a bit of a mirage and he'll need to work on being able to fit the ball into tighter windows. What's an easy passing lane in college becomes an interception trap in the pros.
I still would prefer we trade down from that pick and try to get Locker later in the first. Despite his terrible numbers I think he offers the best combination of talent, leadership, coachability and toughness.

TBH I think Manusky did what he could with our crappy secondary. You can't blitz or call anything risky because our secondary is getting exploited already.
I rep back all Heavenly Blessed Beauties. Rep me to find out if you are the most gorgeous thing that I have ever set my eyes on. My life has now changed and I am now a better person because of you. I look forward to waking up every morning so I can bask in your everlasting glow. Love is an understatement and all words are too vague to express the love I have for you. Your genuine innocence and love is an inspiration to us all!

I don't know what happened...or what exactly changed from the season before when he was a lot more aggressive.
I mean did the loss of Michael Lewis really kill us that much? The defense had 0 turnover from the season before but took a big step back.
I liked what Manusky did until this year...he has my blessing to GTFO.

"The 49ers were the worst schematic team in the league," Williamson said. "That starts with Singletary and goes down to the way they handle quarterbacks, put together game plans, have no stability. Harbaugh will erase all that. He is worth more to the Niners than any other team in the league."
I got a tingle going up my leg :PRussell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...turn-to-49ers/
After Sunday’s season finale, the San Jose Mercury News asked Smith if he could envision a scenario in which he could return to the 49ers in 2011.
“Are you being serious?” Smith said. “Uh . . . no.”

Ya no big shocker there. Best for both sides to part ways.
So now that we're pretty much hitting a big lul in 49er news.
What's everyone thinking for the draft?
What positions do you think we need to hit?
What players do you like?
Which ones you want to stay away from?

The problem with that is we're risking a lot by getting guys like that. Certainly having Harbaugh as the HC gives me a lot more confidence in the team drafting a QB that will work out since he'll have proper coaching and seems like JH knows how to grade out qbs.
I think we really need to go hard after Scrabble but it will be tough cuz so will everyone else, adding him will make our draft a lot more flexible since we won't have to address CB early.
I really think we should consider trading down. The guys I would like to grab later in the first
Pass rushers at OLB
Justin Houston
Ryan Kerrigan
Aldon Smith
Von Miller - altho I am concerned about his size
DL in 3-4
Cameron Jordan
Cameron Heyward
Adrian Clayborn
Allen Bailey
JJ Watt
QBs I wouldn't mind us grabbing outside the first round
Christian Ponder 2-3rd round guy
Andy Dalton 3rd-4th round guy
Ricki Stanzi - 4th round guy
