I am on leave right now so I am not there to see the impact. I know them all and especially see the two enlisted almost every day. We are a small air station so this will be shattering. I am not an aviation guy but these were good men on what should have been a safe trip home. One is married with a young child, one is a divorced dad with custody of his child, the other has a child on the way.

Pretty sure it is SD but definitely Cali. During that flotilla the crew was rushing to a sar call and ran over the boat and killed the little boy. They were all charged this week. Coxswain is being charged with manslaughter and a bunch of other stuff but the whole crew is getting charged with stuff as well. UCMJ charges, not civillian.

Same here, I was finishing up my BA so I didn't even crack one book. It was a long shot for me regardless due to TIG and TIS. I did really well on the test but to have had a chance I would have to of done around 10 points better on the test. The profile letter was reassuring though, I knocked the things that are critical to my job out of the park with 80% on the major sections. I have never been to a small boat station so the section on that screwed me and I only got 25% on those questions, I could have easily made up 10 points there. Good thing there is always next year. Not really stressing it though because I may put in for OCS on the next cycle and I have almost 4 years until the 10 year mark. If I haven't made Chief (or O) by then I would worry (me personally, everyone is different and stays different pay grades for various reasons).

Yeah, I had a lot of questions on shipboard crypto gear and I have no experience with that. I nailed SAR and EPME stuff, but the shipboard questions screwed me.
There's still a glimmer of hope that I'll advance on this list, but I fully expect I'll be taking the NOV SWE, which I will actually study for...***Misc Survivalist Crew***

Well, not to dash your hopes but they always "hire again in October." That is the start of the new FY (Fiscal Year). I would bet a considerable amount of money that the recruiter has already factored that into their 1-2 year estimate. Basically what the hiring again means that the numbers start over, so if they recruited 1,000 for FY10 and they get a new 1,000 for FY11. Recruiters usually fill up their quota within the first few weeks of the FY and then have hold overs for the next FY (or two) that is what makes being a CG recruiter so easy.

I knew this was going to be your response before I even scrolled down. Just keep on the good path and make yourself an even better candidate. If something else better doesn't come along then you will have it made.
Reserves are recruiting hardcore. Monthly paycheck, any rating you want (almost), $4500 a year in tuition assistance.

I will explain it like this. It is difficult to go from reserve to active when they are fully manned in the rating. They aren't going to stay fully manned forever. In my mind it will be a longer wait from now until boot for active than it will be from after "A" school as a reserve to active duty. Now, if you choose the right rating that is critical you will be in the money.
But the recruiter is definitely right, just look at a 5 year plan instead of short term. To give you an example a buddy of mine got out of active as an MST2 and is attempting to come back to active. He was selected as D17 Reserve Enlisted Person of the Year and it is still next to impossible because of manning. There has to be a billet shortage to hire someone to fill that billet. It is all about numbers and they come in waves.
