My gym doesn't have a rack for squats. What is the best substitute exercise? I have free membership to this gym so please don't tell me to go to another gym.

In addition to some of the other suggestions (DL's, zerchers, front squats, etc.), you could consider belt squats while standing on blocks/plates, either with the low pulley or with free weight. (If your gym doesn't have a belt for that, buy one.) Could also do lunges and split squats (back leg on block) with heavy ass dumbells. Nothing replaces real squats, but if you are committed to staying at the gym, make the best of it.

I've seen people use many things as makeshift racks. The weight pins on smith machines (if they are oriented in the right way ect)
I had a free membership to a gym that didn't have a rack once.
It cost me....lets see.... 455 to 275.... 180lbs on my squat in THREE ****ING MONTHS
Are you willing to go through that? Or does getting stronger matter enough to you to spend a few bucks771/645/622 Single Ply

Actually now that it was posted, do Steinborn Squats.

party trick? lol watch his other videos, it is a legit movement in the strongman competitions he does. Kind of like a caveman who has killed a 400lbs lion and wants to take it home to feed his family lol.
And of course he squats from a rack when he trains raw powerlifting, but in this specific movement he is moving around 400lbs+ like it is nothing.
i fully support your statement. however some people believe that as we do not live forever, lets kick the living shi* out of life, no matter what the price!
