Don't be starting that trash talking now, Steve! Bring your Ford over and I'll let you pick one of my Chevy's to race! (except the El Camino with no engine!)
I have 3 Fords too, so I'm not a brand hater. One Mopar. And some Miatas, Lol!
I hear you about those '66 Shelbys. I wouldn't mind having one of the Hertz rentals..... be lucky to get one under 350,000 dollars today:

I have to pick just one??? Forget it, I'll just give the money back!! It would take me forever to decide.
I'd probably start with...damn, I can't even say where I'd start. A few off the top of my head though...
BMW M5 - can haul my whole family...and quickly
Lotus Exige - the ultimate street legal track toy
Corvette ZR1 - yeah, I know I'm rich as hell, but nothing more fun than blowing the doors off some shmuck who spent $300,000 on his Ferrari
Bentley Arnage
Shelby Cobra 427 S/C replica - yeah, I want a replica, so that I won't feel so bad if I whip the snot out of it.
I could go on and on....

Probably something that didn't say I won the lottery & could park unnoticed in a parking lot.
Without knowing the details, the 4door Volvo hardtop convertible would be on the short list.
Classic wise:
'59 Impala convertible
'65 T-Bird convertible
'61 4door Lincoln convertible
Really, too many to decide on.Last edited by IR45N; 08-11-2009 at 05:29 AM.

Yeah, he I am too at like 16/17 years old with my Van Halen 1984 concert shirt on, lol.... I bought the car myself too. I had to rebuild the motor after racing it. Which I did myself as well. But when I finished it. It wouldn't crank over. So took it to a shop and they ran a compression on the motor and said 3 cylinders were not getting enough pressure to crank over. I was out of cash and needed a ride. So I sold the car to a guy that collected them. He came over to the house with a mint yellow one to pick mine up. So it went to a great home. Bottom two pic's were just part of the scan I did. That's my uncle who owns a Vette shop in NC. Been doing it 35+ years. But my father had a Charger as his first charge. So he pointed me in this direction to begin with. I knew people from school that worked on cars and could paint, etc. So much was done inhouse. We did all kinds of crazy stuff back then. See that street behind me, We would run NOS tests up and down it in the cars, lol. Like 0 to 60 back to 0 before we crashed into a house at the other end, lol. Just dumb stuff.
Here's me at the track in 1987 Summer nationals in KC, Mo. Bottom two pictures.

OK, I'm a total car guy too, but this is one car I have to say I just don't really get the fascination with. It's fairly cool looking and the Hemi is a nice motor. But the car weighs in at over 4100 lbs. If there was a nutrition guide for cars, this thing would need to take some valuable lessons. My minivan doesn't weigh that much. So it'll go in a straight line pretty well, just don't ask it to stop or turn. All that for over $30k? Just not my thing I guess. Yeah, yeah, I know...that was the premise of the original muscle cars of the late 60's, but that was 40 years ago.

If 30k is a lot to you. You must have missed the thread heading, lol... Yes, 4100lbs is a lot. But in this day in age that is ultra dirt cheap for a brand new sports car with all it comes with. I mean, you can't even look at a 90's Viper GTS still for that price. Hell, even my imports were 45k and 52k when they came out some 15, 13 years ago. Every car is not for everyone, agree. Just that one is part of the American heritage of American muscle. The HEMI is just an added bonus nowadays. Because back in the day, that 340 and 440 six pac was pretty darn sweet too

Actually, I thought the same thing as you did...the heading of the post was about winning the lottery, so I don't think any 30K car would probably be first for me. I agree with you there. You're also exactly right that the Challenger is part of American heritage and nostalgia, and I think that's it's main draw, not it's overall performance. I'm just more of a road racer than a drag racer, hence my taste for cars that can turn and stop well. I actually had a '99 Viper GTS. It was stunning, with amazing capabilities, but not the most comfortable car to drive. I think I sold it for somewhere around $39k if I remember (and it had 40k miles on it, which was high for a Viper).

Actually my point was what ONE car would you go buy first. Does not matter if it's 30k or 300k. For someone with no job to suddenly have money, perhaps they've always wanted a particular car that's 30k. That's okay by my thinking.
I could fill a book with cars I admire, but the ONE car I would love to have in this life (and sadly likely will never have) is the 1959 MB 220se.
After that the list balloons out!
Actually the second thing I'd do is have my 1979 Cougar restored.
I loved that car.............. but she's up on blocks these days. Was friends with Methuselah

You've definitely got a good point there.
The more I think about it, the very first one I'd chose would probably be the 'Vette ZR1. It can be a jack of all trades, and a master of most. It can do 0-60, 60-0, and run a road race course with pretty much any production car on the planet, yet still be a daily commuter for getting to work...well, assuming it doesn't snow.
There's nothing like the emotional connection with a car. Makes it worth more to you than anyone could ever pay for it. Never had a huge emotional connection with a car I've owned, like you do with your Cougar, but I always lusted after one car from my youth.....
