Gawd Damnit I hate when people make these comments like " how can America do this to innocent cilivians" and " This was totally unecessary by America"...like we are the
f ucking bad guys in this situation!!!

    F UCK!!!!

Do you know how many other ****ing cilivians and military died in this war??

    60,000,000+

This was a small blip on the radar screen as far as magnitudes of death are concerned. To actually blame America for the this is the just how far our generation has been warped...Japan allied with the GREATEST MASS MURDERER OF CIVILIANS of written history in Adolf Hitler and Germany...Japan had the most atrocious prisoner camps of anybody in the entire war...These people were not gonna stop, and if we didnt drop these bombs, MORE JAPANESE CIVILIANS would have died than from these two bombs...

Some of you people make me f ucking sick with your Monday morning QBing, claiming oh we shouldnt have done this cuz its morally reprehensible...F UCK THAT!! This was the bloodiest war in HUMAN HISTORY, and we werent the ones who started it, THEY DID

God rest in peace the people who died in the war, but this is a failure of mankind, not of America

We would have to drop about 25 more bombs to equal the death and destruction that the Japanese did to China. Just read up on how sick and twisted they were: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes

That being said, and the fact that we gave them plenty of warning...well...

Can't really argue that our thing wasn't bad because they did worse things, still makes ours bad. But a better way is to use the crazy things they did to show how illogical they were and how there would be no way to reason any kind of a surrender without doing something like that (which is what I believe, terrible thing but had to be done)

    1) More civilians would have died if we did not drop the bomb from the land invasion plus pre-bombing of all major cities prior to the land invasion

    2) More civilians were killed in conventional bombing attacks (see: Dresden Germany) than from the atomic bombs

    3) Between 500,000 and 1,000,000 allied troops would have died invading the Japanese mainland if we would have had to do so

    4) War was fought differently back then because we didn't have precision weapons that limited civilian casulties

    5) All sides took part in bombing cities

The Japanese government had already warned their citizens and began training every able man, woman, and child to fight to the death incase of an invasion. They had stockpiled all their military and food reserves for an impending invasion.

The Japanese forces literally fought to the last man, last bullet, so you can only imagine how much carnage, death, and devastation it would have been had a land invasion been authorized. In any case by this point, the US was tired after 4 years of brutal war. You could argue that the Soviets would have also joined to attack Japan but by this time, the suspicions between the US and Soviets had grown to a point where the Americans could not trust their Russian counterparts motives.

In hindsight it's easy to criticize but WW2 was a war that involved everyone...no one was spared (soldiers and civilians alike). It's not right, but that was reality. In fact, the excesses of WW2 allowed for the creation of the UN, the concept of human rights, international humanitarian laws, fair and humane treament of POWs, and institutions to protect against the mindless slaughter, killing, genocide of innocent civilians.

Any of you guys ever think about how f'ed up WW2 was and that was only with outdated crummy technology? The concept that there has never been an all out modern even non-nuclear war yet is kind of scary because the technology we have now is on an entirely different level than WW2, and then when you throw in numbers and endless amounts of money it gets pretty nuts to think about.

The A-Bomb was necassary. Like Cement Pizza said, the other way to have finished the war would have been an invasion. Lots more people would have died, and it would'nt have been a guaranteed success. Also what he said, civillians were used as pawns much more back then. Killing civ's was common practice.

I'm amazed that no one (unless I missed it) mentioned the atrocities & war crimes committed by Japan during the war. I sure as heck do not condone the nuking of two civilian cities, but Japan is far from an innocent nation. And the crap they pulled on Korea and China is FAR worse than what the US did. Everyone knows about Hitler obviously, but it's too bad very few people are familiar with the extent of evil perpetrated by Japan.

Do a search for Japanese atrocities.. you might be surprised when you find out just how many POWs and civilians they murdered (hint...it's more than Germany).

People need to read up on their history and not believe the crap they see in Hollywood.

    1. Was the dropping of the Atomic bombs necessary?

    No.

    2. Did dropping the Atomic bombs end the war early?

    No

    3. If the bombs weren't drop, would the Japanese of carried on fighting?

    No.

    4. If the Americans wanted peace with Japan and were willing to accept peace with Japan, with the one request that the emperor keep his status, when would ww2 have ended?

    May-June 1945.

    http://www.doug-long.com/hiroshim.htm

The atomic bombs were dropped for 2 reasons,

    1. to see the effects of an atomic blast on a real world target.
    2. to show Stalin that America not only had the atomic bomb but also was more than willing to use it.

The Japanese biggest worry wasn't America invading but the Soviet Union invading as they knew that the Soviet Union would destroy Japanese society and way of life, America could at least be reasoned with. They wanted to surrender before the Soviet Union invaded and was relying on the Soviet Union, in the Summer of 1945, to help them get a peace deal with the Allies. The Americans rejected it as it wasn't unconditional and the Soviet Union then entered the war.

Do a search for Japanese atrocities.. you might be surprised when you find out just how many POWs and civilians they murdered (hint...it's more than Germany).
I mentioned the rape of Nanking.

Japan also thought they were the master race at the time.
They believed they were superior to other races.
I don't know how this would have played out with Hitler if they had won (The Axis powers)

deserved or not, the decision was made to end the war. It was something that the president believed that had to be done to prevent it from going on longer

    No

God rest in peace the people who died in the war, but this is a failure of mankind, not of America

repped!!!! great point and well said. (waiting for ignorant liberal posters to respond even though they know nothing of WWII and the facts).

what can I say? They should have shut the **** up. You reap what you sow.

And for those who clearly know nothing about world history and think it was cruel and unnecessary to bomb them, I recommend you watch this video of our plans to invade the home islands. It's from the History Channel, something you people desperately need to watch more often. it also explains that even when we nuked them, the Japanese almost continued the war, but then the Russians started pushing them back. Few things make me rage more than demonizing the U.S. for ENDING the deadliest conflict in history.

That's just the first thing i could find, i'm more than happy to read anything that suggests otherwise. Especially anything that says the Emperor never requested a peace deal in July 1945.
