people ask me how to train, and i answer "i look at what you do and then i do the exact oposite"
if your family was captured and you were told you needed to put 100 pounds onto your max squat within two months or your family would be executed, would you squat once per week? Something tells me that you'd start squatting every day

Practise last night, in a game of touch for our warm up twisted my ankle a bit. Didn't think much of it while jogging around. But when it came time to sprint to the 22 pain, oh so much pain, it hurts to put alot of weight on it today.
Sprinting and turning while passing the ball and being a bigger guy = pain on my little ankle

Had a reasonably easy training session last night. Only 10 people turned up to training, very poor show!
We started off with a game of touch and weights. Then went in to american football style game where you have to get 10 passes with our being caught with the ball. Losing team had to leap frog the length of the pitch.
After about 5 goes at that we started on line runs..... 10 x 100m's in 30 seconds. So 1000m in 3mins............ it was hard work but it was good. Going to practice this one quite a bit as it is easy to do!! Just constant running for 3 mins fast.. rest then do it again!!
Then went in to 4 attackers 3 defenders in a small space, every time you mucked up down and 10 pressups!! If you score you turn round and play again!! Its more of a defensive drill but all good. Got wuite rough towards the end... dump tackles and big hits as every one seem to be buzzing for the new season!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

Yo guys. Just got back from a night of celebration over the Boks' win in Carisbrook. Didn't get to go, but wow! What a game! Januarie! Managed to meet a few players out in the town; de Villiers, Burger, Brits, Jantjies, James, Mujati. All such top class blokes; Brits in particular is bloody hilarious.
EDIT: funny story but some of the girls in the bar must have seen me joking with a player or 2(Brits and J.d.V) and must've thought I was a player, too since I was wearing a South Africa shirt. I had quite a few requests for photos lol. They'll wake up thinking they've got a photo with a Springbok when really it's just some dude around campus.Last edited by Dom_88; 07-12-2008 at 09:23 AM.
Friendship b/w women:
A woman doesn't come home one night. The next day she tells her husband she slept over at a girlfriend's place. Her husband calls 10 of her best friends. None know anything about it.
Friendship b/w men:
A man doesn't come home one night. The next day he tells his wife he slept over at a friend's place. His wife calls 10 of the husband's best friends. 8 of them confirm he slept over, the other 2 claim he's still there.

you put the ball down in the trybox (similar to the endzon) you have to have pressure on the ball
You can also kick the ball between the posts
and the word you are referring to is ruck, a ruck is when times fight for possesion of the ball at a breakdown (where someone is tackled)
if you have ESPNU they throw some rugby games on once in awhile, or u can download international matches, I highly recommend this great sport to watch, needs more publicity in the USBuffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, WVU, Red Sox, Orlando Magic

Another pre season last night... it was very good!!
Done a bit of american football touch in a very small place and you have to get to 10 passes!! Very hard and very good. We then went on to some defence fitness drills which was great! The chat and communication was very good.
Went on and done 10X100m's again in 40 seconds. I done 1st - @70% 2nd- Sprinted Full out, 3-5 @70%, 6@ 100%, 7-9 @ 70% and then sprinted out the last one, i lasted alot longer and most of the backs and flankers!! It was really good and loved it.
We then went in to some bag work when we worked in 3s with 6 bags in a circle. 1st person in hits the bag and then drives a few steps and then 2nd clears out when 1st goes to ground and 3rd picks and picks another person in the circle to hit!! Only went for a 1.30min it is fuc**g crazy!! Was dying done a few sets of that!!
and then went in to touch which turned in to full grown contact and players were loving it!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

sounds great
iv only got 4 more weeks left in my season, then another gruelling off season :P
Can't wait for this offseason to come around, this season has been winless so far, looking forward to getting into the gym. My favourite part of the year is the first training back after the off season, when you have that extra size you worked hard for and you can see the kind of damage your body can do with the extra size/strength/speed compared to the previous season :POfficial Rugby training thread: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

I know what you mean, espically when you come back and you can see who has been doing work and who hasnt! There has been the 5 youngest in my team (19-22), we have been doing alot of work together in the off season and its shown! My coach came up to me last night and said that his self and the other coaches have noticed i have got alot bigger and fitter. I think it showed a little last night when i was doing the bag work as i was goin in on my bad shoulder and it was feeling good!! Jsut have to hope it holds up in tackling!! SO it was good that i impressed the coaches last night.
Just found out that we have got 7 warm up games before the season on 30 games starts!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

So we had our first tackling bag drills Monday night, after a 40 minute session of running and sprinting, everyone seems like they were going in slow motion.
Anyways i have a question, now it has been a while since i played properly and i know my technique is lacking in certain areas. So they had someone hold the tackling sheild and we would tackle it. Now im one of the heavier guys on my team but i didn't seem to hit anywhere near as hard as the other guys my weight were hitting.
So is there any basic technique im missing? I was no way near as big when i played before.
You go in low with your shoulder, drive up and grab their leg right?
Any more tips would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Pretty much, make sure your arse is lower than your shoulders and then in a kind of upward motion from a squat pick up a leg and start to drive them back wards.....
you want to make sure you dont slow down when you get close the the bag keep going at full plet and drive straight through!! You made need to do a little bit of foot work to make sure your feet are close enough to the bag to get a big hit on!! It could be that you are two far back from the bag while you hit it!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291
