On Wednesday, city officials celebrated the grand opening of a high-rise building in downtown Los Angeles that will serve as a shelter for homeless residents on Skid Row.
The 228,000-square-foot mission-driven development, called the Weingart Center Tower, will comprise of 228 studio apartments, 47 one-bedroom apartments and three apartments dedicated to onsite managers, Swinerton, the construction company’s website said.
The $165 million, 19-story structure will be LA’s largest permanent support housing project.
Each unit costs an estimated $600,000 and is funded by taxpayers.
Residents will enjoy an impressive list of amenities, including a gym, an art room, a music room and a library.
This will be the first of three towers. The second tower is set to open in 18 months and the third is in its development stages.
In 2016, LA voters passed Proposition HHH, which allows for $1.2 billion in bonds for developments intended to house unsheltered residents.

There is so much commercial property that is for lease and empty, that it was only a matter of time given the heat.
All around DC empty buildingsThere is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Years ago LA was constructing apartments for the homeless at $800,000 a piece and they were mostly completed when I saw the news story. There must have been less grift and money laundering with this newest apartment building. LA making progress baby!!
Just build a hundred more and things will look a lot better on the streets.Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

First, stop lying. The article says studio apartment. That’s not a “condo.”
Second, you’re saying people in LA are homeless - on purpose - because they might get to live in a studio?
And … so LA is just supposed to have tax payer funded tent cities? Like that’s any better than the homeless that pitch a tent now?

You're right. Someone actually has ownership interest in a condo. This is a taxpayer-funded boondoggle.

Homeless drug addicts/alcoholics should be put into camps to sober up. If they're caught high on the street again, send them to a labor camp for 12 months. Back on the street? 3 years. I don't care how brutal this sounds. Homeless drug addicts add nothing to society other than crime and degeneracy. They lower the standard of living for normal people who are forced to be around them. They may as well not even be alive tbh. Their entire existence revolves around funding the next hit, which funds criminal gangs. But they deserve a chance - ONE chance.
Asylums should be brought back as well because mental illness is a huge risk factor for becoming homeless/an addict, and these people can't help it. Wooooo we successfully got rid of asylums but forgot to think about what would happen without them, now there are hordes of mentally ill people living on the steets, chitting in public.

"Do you think SH actually felt like that was a sxual thing he was doig? She's like. Only an actual p3do would thik that she thought he was groping her, too."
"Not that it's impossibl to touch a minor inapproriately, but it is true that a 6 year old girl will not recognie someone putting a hand on their chest as groping, whether it is inappropriat or not."

It’s not semantics - and it’s not a “600k” place to live - that’s the initial cost per unit to build a 19 story building. This maybe, or may not be, - I would have to see a unit - going a little too far - but “tent cities” aren’t exactly the answer either.
So tell me, what should a place like LA do to solve its homeless problem. “Not this” isn’t an answer btw.

That’s not true. It’s true for more than some would like to believe, and certainly many of them don’t want to be told what to do (i.e., don’t take drugs in housing) - but many would happily sleep in a nice safe bed. This is particularly true for the recently homeless - the ones that stand a serious chance of coming back into society.
But I pose the same question to you as I did to Nutsy. What do we do with these people?
Bonus points, why does America have such a bigger problem with this than other places?

FML are we reading the same article? It is in fact a 600k place to live. It's a 19 story building filled with these units...
"... will comprise of 228 studio apartments, 47 one-bedroom apartments and three apartments dedicated to onsite managers."
So WTF are you even arguing about? That's 275 units in the whole building dedicated to homeless housing dumbass."Do you think SH actually felt like that was a sxual thing he was doig? She's like. Only an actual p3do would thik that she thought he was groping her, too."
