Pride vs humility -- which is the better?

Today's sermon was on how pride separates us from God and other people. It could be pride in intellect, finances, looks, biblical knowledge or anything else.

Humility gives a different perspective and is a key ingredient when it comes to understanding the true reality of things

I know a few people who have never been "humbled" before and they are arrogant, ignorant and short sighted (which ends up making their lives more difficult)

Pride can be good at times even though its a "deadly sin" yes pride can blind us completely..But its good to take pride in things like work / family imo

In the end I believe humility is better, however in a world full of prideful people you need to keep your guard up being the humble one

depends on definition of pride. You can be confident but not judgmental for your accomplishments...
but no one is perfect, and you seem awfully judgmental about individuals who go to college, Jews, and a lot more.
Just be neutral and understanding of other people if you want to help them, calling them out or belittling them isn't gonna change them. Jesus accepted and loved the sinners, he didn't scold them or call them out

    Howdy dopa....

I buy that as I've recently had an experience with a friend (Navy guy) I've known for 50 years who has crossed the line with me for the last time.

In my irrelevant opinion, in the appropriate circumstances, genuine humility and sincere atonement should be (2) character traits that every mature adult should be able to accept and express.

Personally, I don't use the word 'pride' in first person.
I'll sub with "I'm very pleased how this song turned out"....or...."I'm elated at the outcome of this project".

    But, that's must me.

One should practice both. Knowing when to implement them is what's important

I don't mean to split hairs on this topic or debate semantics but, to me, using 'pride' in first person crosses the threshold into boasting and chest thumping.
A good way to get me to tune out if I think they're full of shvt and self grandizing .

When I was younger I had a lot of humility. I think mainly due to insecurity and I was intelligent enough to know my place. Worked on a daily basis for 20+ years to build myself into the man I wanted to be.

I wasn't until I got older I had people tell me I was prideful or cocky. But at this point. I've been racking up straight wins. I'm 37. I've never made a 'mistake' or taken a loss. I've had people tell me eventually I'll get humbled. But that's people that have failures and have taken L's in life. People that I'm outperforming in many/all regards. So its hard for me to take their opinion seriously. At this stage I genuinely think I'm smarter then most people.

I've done both and I'll take a slightly more cocky/prideful mindset/approach to life any day. Winning at life is easy. Life is fukking good. I don't go through 'hard times' or experience failures. I don't have 'problems' in life. Everything is straight easy mode and good times.

i think in general people just don't like people they see as arrogantly prideful -- it lacks a certain genuineness and the ability to relate to people. and let's face it, everyone can be extremely humbled in a single doctor's visit, accident or betrayal of trust from someone they love (baring that one isn't a sociopath type).
