Companies arent interested in big aircraft. They are too inefficient and expensive to operate.
747 and A380 arent even manufactured anymore."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Large aircraft are more efficient to operate on a per-mile basis than small ones.
The reason we're going to 737s and A320s is because most passengers don't need to go from Atlanta to Seattle. They need to go from Savannah to Olympia, and they don't want to drive to a major city. Therefore the industry has been moving to smaller flights from smaller cities.

Instead of big slow aircraft I think the industry is going to move to faster craft. Would you rather take a 30-60 minute flight across the country? Or a 5-6 hour flight across the country? If you are flying around the world would you want a 15-20 hour flight? Or a 2 hour flight?
There are multiple companies working on this concept already. Only a matter of time before we are getting launched into space to traverse the Earth then set back down safely in an airport.
