Attempting to understand the psychology of people that spend a great deal of time on internet forums mostly disparaging others -- do you think it's a symptom of low self esteem/depression?

Put your mind in that position. You seek to project success on anonymous message forums yet you go about this through following people online and disparaging them. Seems like an obvious symptom of someone who doesn't get the needed validation they feel deserving of in real life.

I believe the correct path is to NOT disparage these people in return. They are hurting. Why make things worse on them? In fact take a whole other route and PRAY for them.

i mean who knows how some people work through their desperation. for some it could be finding a hobby, God or just raging online and trying to bring others to the hurt they feel themselves. online forums made me understand the saying hurt people hurt people more than anything else.
