Square Enix's one and only problem is two fold:

1. they continue to pursue an (Western) audience that will NEVER play their games, regardless of the games they make, the genre, or the marketing

and

2. in doing so, they've alienated their core audience for the past 15 years.

What do I mean by point 1?

Western jewbrained golems who play CoD, GTA, 2k, God of War, Fortnite, Skyrim, The F4g of Us, Starfield, Cyberpunk, etc., etc., will NEVER play a Japanese made game, nevermind a fukking Japanese RPG. It is simply out of the question for them. The Japanese boomers in Japan don't understand this racial and national dynamic. This very same audience are the ones who think anime is gay, sushi is disgusting, and Asian women have sideway poosay. They are inherently repulsed by anything Asian or Asian made.

In short, Japanese boomers are unable to see the correlation in archetypes and taste and preference in videogames and entertainment.

No matter how many White blonde haired main characters they make, no matter how many token Black/minority they shove into their games, no matter how many fkn Western trends in gameplay they chase, no matter how many hundreds of millions of dollars they dump into maximizing graphics for these Westoid golems, no matter how much they dumb down the gameplay to appeal to the masses, the group above will STILL NEVER BUY THEIR GAMES. Which directly leads into point 2, which should be self explanatory. Their core audience, you know, the people who will buy their games, regardless of reviews, are the 90s boomers like myself. These people want nothing more than a return to former glory. Yet, every year, we are served steaming piles of dogchit like FF15, FF16, Forspoken, FF7 Remake, FF7 Rebirth, FF13, all these f4gg0t ass casul games, embarrassing try hard stories, and watered down garbage truck juice gameplay designed to appeal to Westoids.

Their best game in decades is probably Star Ocean 2 Remake. Which is an Enix/Tri-Ace IP lulz.

I remember playing FF13 when it launched on Xbox 360. I got up to the robot junkyard and quit because the stupid robots were destroying me lol

Fast forward years later (2023), I got the game on Steam and played it in 4K60 on my RTX3070. Took about 50 hours to beat. Story wasn't the greatest but the HD mods made the game look pretty good. The FF13 battle system is probably one of my favorites of all time now. However, it took like 20 hours for me to really get a proper hold of it. There are some bosses that are pretty hard and you can't beat them just raw doggin it with regular attacks.

- Prevents Helldivers 2 from being sold to countries that don't officially support PSN instead of just doing what literally every one of their competitors and other platforms have done, which is just support them.
- Do the same for Ghost of Tsushima over an optional online mode that I'm pretty sure most people didn't even care about, let alone knew existed (I don't/didn't).

By the time the PS6 is going to release, Microsoft will assuredly be locked into trying to put Game Pass on every device possible to make using it as accessible and easy to use as possible. The reality is that Sony won't be able to scrounge up their own Call of Duty (or Overwatch) competitor, and the bulk of games for Playstation, Xbox, and PC are already third party titles, so offering a platform that doesn't suck is going to be their best bet.

With the insane cost of game development on top of the growing length it takes to eventually release, they can't afford to not port their games in a similar vein to Microsoft, only they're not dumb enough to scream it out load from the top of the hills like Phil Spencer.

Given the desperate state of AAA release schedules, if Sony was smart, they'd be digging into their back catalog since the PS4 for games to resell/port. As the PS3 emulator RPCS3 shows, their old games hold up damn well:

Then when you take last gen ports from the perspective of the PC versions without the settings imposed by the hardware limitations, they're not even that different from current gen games (e.g. TLOU2 vs the "remaster").

So much truth to this. Funny how Sony gets praised as some sort of savior of the industry when they are always trying to pull some scummy chit just to make a quick extra buck off their customers. Game development has become too expensive and time consuming to really work for just one platform anymore, and the difference in graphics from last gen to this gen is basically the equivalent of turning up some settings on a PC version of a game. That's probably why last gen games work so well when they enhance them with even just a simple FPS boost.
