You know… I’m starting to think their is weight behind the ARM rumours. MS just rolled out their first custom server CPU with ARM….. seems like ARM surface laptops are inbound this year….. Xbox could be next to get a custom ARM CPU. Could be very interesting. Especially if the steam side loading stuff is true….. that would be very intriguing. And remember the surface team is designing the next Xbox.

PS will likely move theirs up to match. I doubt they would want the new Xbox out for a year or 2 before introducing their new console.

PS is leading in sales by far and don't have to let Xbox dictate anything. Plus the pro is coming out this year so they're fine for the next 4 years.

If your opposition that you’re supposed to be competing with is outselling you 2 to 1 overall(and widening the gap) and owns double the market share, when the console was supposed to be neck and neck, then yes I’d say it’s a flop.

But not to get bogged down in semantics, call it whatever you want to call it. Point still remains that Xbox feels the need to rush another console to market so they can have one that isn’t directly competing with a new PlayStation around time of launch. That tells you all you need to know about Microsoft’s (lack of) ability to compete.

It was always pretty obvious that they would make a console for the next generation. They're not gonna alienate the entire fanbase overnight. Whether a console comes after the next generation is up for debate though and Microsoft may start slowly putting in the blocks to become a publisher/gamepass machine only.

With xcloud maturing and getting better tech, they could still release a box that performs completely over the cloud for gaming, with perhaps a small harddrive for you to save some games on it.

I could always be completely wrong here but my first thought would be for anyone who has the extra $ to make sure and buy two of these. Leave one unopened, one day “the last Xbox console” might become a collectible. If not then what’s a few hundred bucks lost over that many years.
