He missed out on the opportunity to cash in on the big bucks here in America. Advertisers are really eager to sponsor pole vaulters. The teens here just idolize them.

Just watched some women skateborders, actually young girls in their teens, great skill but what was remarkable was the camaraderie displayed by these youngsters. It was heartwarming. Kudos to them

I've seen some great camaraderie by a lot of the athletes, minus the American men's sprinters. I actually saw them snub other athletes when they were trying to congratulate them after heats.

Carl Lewis is not happy about the 4x100 not advancing to finals. Pretty pathetic showing.

about splitting gold medal, is it like a hacksaw deal? Chop-chop you get half and you gets another. And what do you say after, like, I won a half-gold? And then, what is the plan for unused silver, its like 10 ounces go amiss.

Why isn't there yellow cards in high jump? I mean, if you think this is soccer, get the card.

Despite Dake’s unexpected loss, USA doing great in freestyle wrestling. 🤼‍♂️ 🇺🇸. One of our best teams ever.

Dake can still get bronze, right?

Tamyra Mensah-Stock was awesome, especially her interview.

Gold for David Taylor. WE ARE...

Kyle Snyder still representing the NLWC.

Hopefully Gable wins gold so he moves on from the Big Ten to bigger and better things. That guy is a beast.

Gable’s gold medal match was one of the best ever.

So far we’re at 2 bronze, 2 gold, and at minimum a silver. Can’t think of a better Olympic performance for men’s freestyle.

Dang, about that time again. Time flies.

    https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/paris-2024

Thread is for any sport ofc, but personally watching mostly track as usual. The indoor season so far with the world championship etc has been an interesting preview. I try to follow the NCAA track as well as you never know what will come out of there.

Femke bol of the netherlands has stood out this season, improving her own indoor world record a few times.

A very suprising race, and for a short time, world record:

Because they didn't have electronic gear on the starting blocks, it couldn't be counted as a world record but the "unknown" guy is 19 or something like that so hopefully he has many bright days ahead.

Then Coleman beat Lyles in the 60 m finals, but as usual I am more excited about the future generation and think the U.S., especially, has so many at college level that are just inches from making an olympic team. Notice that the 5th place went to a Swede, lol. We are coming for you african americans! We jumped higher and now we almost ran faster.

Then as Lyles is looking to close in on the 200 m world record, Letsile Tebogo, a 20 yr old from Botswana recently broke the 300m world record, running a time of 30.69 seconds on February 17, 2024. Remember he closed in on Lyles at the end of a race last year in the 200 m - noone does that.

Then Josh Kerr broke the 2 mile world record, and won the 3k indoor title. And he did that running the last 200 m in 25 seconds (last 400 m in 52), faster kick than the winners of the 1500 m. So Ingelbrigtsen will have his hands full with that one.

So much to look forward to.

Damn, didn't realize I've been following Femke for almost 4 years. It's cool to see these athletes climbing the ladder and finding success.

She has such an effortless stride. Watching her and a few others like Allyson Felix I get the feeling I'm also watching a piece of art in some strange way.

Yeah, she hasn't even peaked yet; sad when she tripped on that relay though.

    On spread.

Competitions in California just ended a few hrs ago, and I'm so happy for our Swedish athlete Andreas Almgren. He was a very promising youngster some years ago in the 800 m with a 1:45, but suffered years of injuries. He then recently came back focusing on longer distances, and ran a 3:32 1500m, and close to a 13 min flat for the 5K last year, breaking those national records. For context - before him and one or two others in a new generation (a 1:44 guy as well), most of our mediocre records had stood for 30+ yrs.

So a short while ago he ran the 10K road race for the first time and got the national record with 27:20 something and now, in his first 10K on the track, got an insane 26:52, but ended up 3rd. Top 3 all came in at 26:52. So he broke a national record that has stood for 35 yrs by 63 seconds, lol. Hope he stays injury free now and gets a good olympic games.

Many exciting things coming out of the USA, which I always follow but normally not as easy to find exciting stuff from my tiny country. Last time we got the gold and silver in the discus, but that will be a lot more diffult this time around. We have Mondo ofc. But what I'm most happy with is not a dude that actually has a chance there, but someone coming up and breaking barriers in a way for what is possible for a white dude in the sprints.

Henrik larsson had some success internationally as a junior athlete, but got injured and stalled a bit. Then last year broke our 100 m record that had stood since the 90's - brought it down from 10:18 to 10.13. And now in the first race of the season he did 10.08, so I am cheering all the way to see a Swede go under 10 seconds this season!

The more realistic talensts/chances we have are from mid distance and long distance dudes atm tho. Andreas Almgren got a great new record in the 1500 m 3:32 last year, but seems to be going for longer distance and recently broke the national record by a minute (which had stood for 25+ yrs) to 26:52 in the 10K (was like his first race at distance). We have Kramer, a 1:44 runner in the 800 m looking for his big race as well. Then a Junior possibly cabable of some good things in the 1500. And a 400 m hurdler that just ran a 48.6 for his opener.

Among the females, we have a long jumper close to and capable of 7 metres, but she is not very reiable so who knows.

Then another female having won world titles in the triple jump adjusting to senior level. We always had good jumpers for some reason so don't say white ppl can't jump, lol.

    Anyways, it will be exciting.

Edit: Andreas Almgren just ran a 12:59 in the 5K and qualified. Very good for a european, I'd say.

Josh Kerr Vs Ingebrigtsen this evening in the bowerman mile. Can't wait to see it given the trash talk between the two these last few months.

Happy to see some new young talents over here as well. Julia Henriksson ran 10.95 and 22.5, but in too strong of a wind. But we haven't had a female run this fast since 1980 (11.1) and she got busted for steroids. Then a new chick just 20 yrs old came in from nowhere and broke the national record in hammer throw with 72 metres.

Edit: 73.3 metres today she added another meter on it

Our young 400 m hurdler (Bengtström) just ran the opener and tied his best from the other year 48.5 something. Then an even younger hurdler has almost the same time 48.7 , second overall in the ncaa quarter final today...hopefully he can develop a bit this year as well.
