How many reps can you get at 225?

Recovering from my umpteenth shoulder injury but I got 10 reps at 225 for the first time since last summer today:

I thought you were going for one more , and I’m like I don’t think I’d chance it .
That was a nice set , good form . My best was 225-9 in my late 40’s , so you’ve beat my pr.
It’s strange as I just felt particularly strong that one day , and never did 225-9 again. Was typically doing 5-6 reps any given day.

A few years ago I could do a triple at 315 any given bench day.

In 2020 at age 52 I got my lifetime best bench at 365.

These days anything north of 2 plates feels like a Buick but I am trying.

That is really good. I am 52 now and not sure I could hit 365. My best was 425 in my late 30's.

I haven't flat benched at all since the pandemic happened and my gym closed....so it has been a good 4 years or so. Now I just do incline bench and ring dips. Last Friday I hit 225x12 on incline. On heavier days I will work up to 275 (incline) which I can usually get for 3-5 depending on the day. The only other pressing movement I do is handstand pushups. Love those.

I still work to get stronger in all of my lifts but I don't see myself going back to flat bench anytime soon.

Good **** guys. Bench has always been a struggle for me, but the last couple of years it's been a ****-show.

I was happy to hit 10 reps at 2 plates yesterday. Used to be just a warmup for me.

At least I still have a semi-respectable deadlift.

Nice work @Flex. Know the bench was always the one you had to work the most. @Karl that is some serious weight incline! And @Gabbar, that is AWESOME!

My shoulders have really gotten bad. I dont do 'normal' flat bench any longer. (with anything heavier than 135). I do most all reverse grip.

Partially posting this as a kick in the a$$ to myself. In the past 3 months I have only hit the gym one or two times. In 14 years I never skipped a week. But life has gotten very busy for us. The time I would spend in the gym is now spent on my sons racing. Lots of travel and evenings in garage working.
Life has become a little hectic. I am going to start doing at least 2 days and making the time. Hitting this much time out is not what I ever thought I would do, but it is not anything I regret with the focus being my kids.

On a cool note, my son was invited to move up to a Pro race series next year. It is a formula series that pretty much every current American Pro driver (outside of NASCAR) has come through, Indy, LMP cars, GT3/GT4. They invited him to run Road America in their F2000 in june and we will see where it goes! So I have to get back to taking care of myself. Life evolves but have to find a way to fit working out back in!

Your deadlift is fantastic (saw your 565 video) -- especially given that you are hitting those numbers while dropping fat.

I know you said that. That is fuked. I dont know how insurance works in Can. In the US, they have to give you the value of your car. If you dont agree with the amount they feel it is worth, you can arbitrate and then hire an appraiser who can do a market value report. So your insurance co has to cover the VALUE of your car, not what you paid for it.



The racing stuff has been crazy on our end. Life is just so unpredictable. I know this is crazy, but the cool thing is this was all just fun. I never EVER would have thought we would go racing nor was it is goal. He is just really that good that others around me told me to give him a chance. I thought we would have to spend a few years cutting his teeth racing. We chose the most competitive level of amateur racing for him to start and by his 2nd race he had top 10 pace. This is not a field of kids. Only one other kid under 18 runs competitively and only seen 3 young drivers total. Mostly grown men and former pro drivers. So if all goes as it looks like he will be moving up to a professional level series. (still dont get paid but considered "Pro" and prize money at times etc) It has become a consuming thing for me. Unfortunately, it is an expensive thing, so I have really been working a lot to try to make this all work out.

You might consider installing a 'sprint booster' on your next car. It plugs between the accel pedal and the re-maps the throttle. BUT it has a lockout function where you can disable the pedal, or even put in 'valet' mode where it only lest you use a small percentage. It is so small, no one would know it was installed and you could hide the controller. I used them on a few cars. (for the pedal mapping not the security) but the security feature is very nice as well.

Same here; they're supposed to give me market value. I paid much much less for the car than they are worth now.

I've only seen one C7 Z06 under 100k and it has high mileage and an accident on the carfax.

But the adjuster told me that they are "close to 6 figures but not quite there". WTF?

Whatever they offer I will push back for sure.

Whatever I buy next I will pay cash for. We just bought a new house so I will be happy to not have a car payment (our other cars are already paid for).

After reading you had a shoulder injury , I think I’d pass on doing 315 or PR’s . That’s a pretty respectable bench your doing now , probably more than 99.99 percent of the Misc

Some people are getting their vehicles stolen, they replace them, and then the thieves come back for the replacement.

That is my major concern right now.

In Toronto where old houses don't have garages people are installing bollards in their their driveways to block their cars in.

The best I ever did was 23 reps, but I didn't have a spotter and think I could have gotten another 1-2 reps if I had one.

These days I'm not too ahead of your 10 reps, Flex. I'd say maybe 12 to 15 reps depending on how I was feeling that day, but similar to ID--I really don't do traditional flat bench. I prefer Swiss Bar and/or Reverse Grip.

Bumping a good thread.

I don’t have a bench, I’ve been training the floor press with shoulder width grip to work my pecs along with pushups (weighted and non weighted ) gripping dumbbells to get a fuller ROM.

I can only do a few reps with 225 at the moment.

Finally doing high reps with more than Jonny oneplate, I’ve been fighting a cough for almost 2 fuking months now, it’s finally going away.

Last night I floor pressed with wide grip 160 for 2-sets of 20, at 198-200BW.

Regarding the title of the OP, I did 23 reps back in 2013 I think it was.

I still don't do flat bench anymore since the pec tear, so I have no idea how many I could do now.

I'm still dealing with the 50% or more reduction in strength on my right side from a pinched nerve in my spine. I had hoped it would go away by now (October 2023), but I'm likely going to have back surgery.

C7 Z06's are stupid expensive now. I got a great deal on mine in 2018. No deals to be had now.

I am buying this 2019 Grand Sport, because I just can't justify spending 6 figures (which is what the Z06s are going for here) on a car.

This car is costing me the same as my Z06 did in 2018. Inflation is a bitch. But it's a nice car and looks brand new, well maintained and crazy low miles. The owner barely drove it.
