You were more responding to how it appears the social effects of what is presented would be counter to your own philosophy for human advancement with a focus on collectivism which instinctively clashed with the individual focus of stoicism. This is more one of the reasons why it was packaged the way it was for our current times, then one of its main focuses.


And really stoicism is fine, however it’s more of a personal development for dealing with adversity. It’s really just “don’t worry about things you can’t affect, be prepared for everything”. It’s not something that will turn you into Marcus Aurelius and things like meditations is more like an interesting look into a fascinating persons thoughts and what direction stoic line of thought took the most powerful man in the world at the time.

Personally I think the epicureans were on to something much more. They lived in tiny community to pursue pleasure. But their definition of pleasure was in supporting each other and living simply while minimizing the bad things in life. Things like helping your friends bring you more pleasure in the long run then being selfish etc..

Simple life, food, shelter, water, communal activities, temperance not gluttony.
