It's pretty simple, the US is not a rogue state. The Houthis (It's important to distinguish from all Yemenis) are launching ineffective drones at passing ships and in the general direction of Israel. The US Navy (and a few others) shoot them down because they can. The Houthis shot in the general direction of some US aircraft from their dhows so the Navy sunk them all. Then Naval air assets bombed something like 70 Houthi targets in Yemen.

Generally speaking, Americans just feel bad for Iranians. They were on their way to a modern country and then the Ayatollah took over. Sad.
