The graphics are good, open world, a lot of NPCs to fight. So what is it that makes these games so bad?

What makes modern Assassin's Creed games trash?

I think it's just the whole copy and paste thing that people complain about. The Ezio storyline was my favorite, but the last one I really enjoyed was Origins. The only problem for me is that it was so long that after completing it I started Odyssey and stopped after an hour or two, just got burned out I guess, more and more of the same.

Loved Odyssey, the historical accuracy and archeological layout was actually pretty on point. Really like the story that of unveiling this secret society and the reward payout that went along with it. Ship battles and exploration were pretty sick as well. For me it was the best AC game..but then again it is the only AC game I have played.
This guy does a great breakdown of why Odyssey is such a good game, and I couldn't agree more..

Odyssey was really good as a standalone. Origins was ok. Valhalla is trash and Mirage is mid.
After AC2 the games have become generic consumer games. AC started with a good story that was scrapped midway the series and they just started copy-paste the game in different time setting.
Overall AC games are good but they don't really standout, they have become generic. They lack attention to detail and are as corporate as they can get - good graphics, gameplay full of gimmicks and that's it.
FarCry is the same. Started off good and became some ghey franchise that doesn't know what it is.

The last five or so games don't even feel like new games. Just bloated DLC. It's the same engine, same combat. Stupid generic missions outside of the main story which isn't even that great. They make it seem like it's got tons of open world areas and quests but it's all just on repeat even from game to game. It's got a couple unique areas but most towns and villages look exactly the same.

As someone who likes history, this.
It's nothing but cringey, fanfic nonsense about a wish.com Illuminati against the edgy teenage writer's self-inserts wearing the most conspicuous, non-assassin, fantasy Prada-Gucci what-the-**** livery for a bunch of self-righteous ponces. Then the wish.com Illuminanti's Matrix time travel simulator and ancient aliens or precursors or whatever happens, and we're supposed to give a schit about any of this.
To go through the lengths they do to recreate these historical periods, only to force a bunch of obnoxious sci-fi animations and interface everywhere you look to instantly counteract any immersion you might have is just baffling.
All for a subplot nobody's given a damn about ever since Ubisoft themselves derailed the entire point by killing off their plank of wood protagonist Desmond before any of their original plans could make any sense on purpose out of spite. You read that correctly, Ubisoft, in all their petty, French prissiness, intentionally ruined their own story because one of the guys responsible left the company.
So we're still stuck with that mediocre garbage that was the worst part of every single game and a waste of time and development (and ruined Black Flag) when the company itself had already ruined it. That's some peak stupid, courtesy of Ubiquitousoft.
Unironically this.

Kinda lost interest in AC after they scrapped the original story
I liked how it combined modern and historical worlds and the whole going back in time through the Animus. Thought we’ll get a game where you play Desmond with modern combat and abilities from his ancestors
No idea why they decided to end that story it was what made the story interesting to me

I was always dismissive of the AC games, since they looked too long & suffered from the ubisoft formula of "Do this checklist of activities" that ultimately feel like busy work. Like work for the sake of work, not driving the narrative or anything.
Then I gave AC Origins a shot and loved every second of it. I then completed Odyssey, but the main story was way too long. Look these kinds of games are great in a void, but when you have a gaming backlog, I can't be devoting several months to a single game like that. I'm going to wait a full year before touching Valhalla, and then probably a year after that to play Mirage.
The RPG reboot games are enjoyable, but the bloat is real.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think most people don't like the modern AC games because the "AC" part is missing.
I say this because I like the games less like the originals the best (BF, Odyssey and Valhalla). I enjoy the open world historical settings, not the (to me) boring plot of the assassins and templars.
Gameplay is the other reason, lots of generic filler in the games.libs gonna lib

Man, I distinctly remember how Odyssey was already receiving push back on how big the game was, Ubisoft said they learned their lesson and would reduce the size for Valhalla... then totally ignored everyone including themselves and made it stupidly big for no reason
What completely loses me is how Odyssey allows the player to kill civilians, but the viking game goes back to the stupid cReEd failure state.
The only people who I can imagine giving a damn about the "modern day" side crap are the hardcore AssCreed fans, so like... redditors, maybe a gaggle of Ubisoft dumbasses who insist on always including it. which is such a stupid audience to cater towards when it inherently means investing so much energy coming up with why/how to derail their story, do the voice acting, create all of the assets, ect.
Imagine if they put the amount of effort they divert towards that useless faff instead towards better side missions or something that would contribute to the rest of the actual game they were making. There isn't even an excuse now when Ghost of Tsushima was so widely praised while essentially being the "how to actually make the game you were trying to make" template for Ubisoft to at least look over.
That's pretty much exactly what the original plan was with the aforementioned plank of wood Desmond (modern day character) would pick up assassination skills through the Animus ("I know Kung-Fu," but time travel bullschit), and it would culminate in him using said skills against wish.com Illuminati/Ubisoft stand-in Abstergo in the modern day.
https://www.eurogamer.net/original-p...on-a-spaceship
..."The original plan was pieced together based on interviews by me with AC's original creator Patrice Désilets and AC3's creative director Alex Hutchinson," de Wildt wrote.
"Briefly put, the third game would end with a resolution of the conflict in the present day, with Desmond Miles taking down Abstergo using the combined knowledge and skills of all his ancestors, including AC1's *****r and AC2's Ezio."
Speaking to Eurogamer today, AC3 creative director Alex Hutchinson recalled discussing the matter with the student, and that an earlier plan for the game had indeed focused on a big modern day showdown with Desmond as its star.
"Also, it is the end of the world in 2012," de Wildt continued, "and Desmond Miles and Lucy are starting a new civilisation somewhere else - as Adam and Eve."
"That's why she's called Lucy, after the Australopithecus afarensis," Désilets told de Wildt in an interview. As for where Desmond and Lucy were going, well... "Boum! It's a freaking spaceship!" Désilets replied.
Basically, if you needed any more confirmation that Ubisoft are unoriginal, hack sociopaths, there ya' go.
Now, the original plan sounds pretty daft, but the direction Ubisoft decided to take with AssCreed 3 and beyond is plain full retard. At that point, which would be Black Flag, they would have been better off sticking firmly to each individual game's time period with fully developed characters and stories seeing as how the memory time travel serves literally zero purpose since they killed said purpose off.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
