PSA replenished their AAC 5.56 55g (lol) ammo yesterday for 50 cents per round. I went home after work to place an order, and they were already sold out. That's what I get for leaving my wallet at home.

what is the best sub home defense round? Still 45 acp i assume?
To me its obvious that bullet weight is the most dominant factor within 10 yds for subs. Id only use 300bo for its ability to fulfill more than one role.
its looking like a two stamp kriss vector might be the best HDW thusfar
unless someone breaks in with armor then I guess you should use x51 lolLast edited by rectifryer; 10-28-2023 at 06:57 AM.

Damn, they sold out again. You can search their AAC ammo, and on the page for it, click on "notify when in stock". You'll get an email instantly when they get more.
I've had good luck with my we the people kydex holster. Inexpensive, robust and fits my EDC well. It loses a point or two on comfort, but I carry a 1911 so it is a fairly big gun to have on. They usually have a sale, or you can Google a coupon code.
Hopefully.
I was considering a 300 bo upper for Black Friday. However the more I research an upper to build a home defense and truck gun, the more I'm leaning towards a 10.3 or 11.5 5.56 upper with a pinned and welded suppressor.Misc Firearms Crew

The best subsonic 300 bo ammo is less lethal than the best supersonic 300 bo ammo. I think it's unwise to prioritize report noise over performance.
This would be true if the only 300 no ammo in existence was fmj subsonic.
Fact is there is some incredibly well performing 300 bo supersonic ammo on the market that also performs very well out of barrels as short as 5 inches. That last part is something 5.56 can't do.
When 300 bo was first being used by the military, they did not have the kinds of high performance ammo that is around today.
I'd still rather use 5.56 though.

Dummy 300 bo haters think that 220gr subs are the only rounds available ".45 cp ballistics."
16" ARs are too long.
5.56 is ass out of anything less 11.5
practice till you heart is content shooting 5.56 and then have a 8-9" .300 bo upper with a good bullet for taking care of business.I wouldn’t save your ass for a ten dollar bill and a jolly rancher.

Brozef,
Outside, I'd agree 100%.
Inside, I'm not sure it's as clear. If it's you and 1 bad guy, sure. But what if there's more than one person you're worried about, or a few bad people and also other unarmed people you're trying to keep track of?
When we built a music studio upstairs, we had to add rockwool sound absorbing panels into the walls and a bunch to the sloped ceiling to decrease our pain from the drum set. With the rock wool it's not horrible, but the snare is still painful without ear pro. That's in a 3-400 sq ft reflection conditioned room with an 18 or 20' ceiling peak. A snare drum maxes at only 125 db.
With a baffle type suppressor, subsonic 300 is what, 130-135. Supersonic seems to be 9-10 db higher on Pew Science's tests. Either is loud, but 145 is going to make it really hard to hear for at least a couple of breaths.
Anyone on this thread have experience clearing a lot of occupied buildings? I'm curious to know if you wear ear protection when you do that. My BIL is the only person I know who's had to do that in a couple of different roles, so I'll ask him too when I see him tomorrow.Could you define ______ for me, please?

If you're in some type of situation where you're shooting at bad guys indoors, your hearing isn't affected in the moment. Adrenaline dumps keep your ears functioning. Yes, you'll absolutely have permanent hearing loss from that, but it won't affect your performance in the heat of the moment.
Setting up a range toy caliber gun for hearing protection in a home defense situation is pretty retarded. Is hearing important? Of course. Defending yourself in your home is so incredibly rare that if it were to happen, the hearing damage you'll receive won't be that impactful. This is coming from a dude that never wore earpro in Afghanistan and has pretty bad hearing with my left ear being severely ****ed. All that said, my HD gun is still an 11.5 5.56 AR with an RC2 on it. Nowhere near hearing safe outdoors, let alone indoors.
.300 BO is retarded and you would be significantly better served by putting money you'd put towards a .300 build (plus ammo, etc.) towards training with your primary rifle, which should be a 5.56 AR.Misc Firearms Crew

Now looking to get either a Trijicon ACOG + RMR offset or a Red dot Magnifier. There's also LPVO's and I can't decide right now haha but most likely the Trijicon ACOG/RMR which will be another $1,500-1,600.
Some of this chit taking forever to ship though, particularly Geissele, Primary Arms, and Brownells. Will have the upper + stripped lower by Thurs. Might just cancel some components and buy elsewhere so I can finish this.

Just to reiterate, the point of 300 blk was to take the requirements of 2 full auto special forces weapons, the M4 Carbine and the MP5SD, and bridge their capabilities into a single weapon by use of an ammo change.
The rifles were zeroed for supersonic ammo, and used subsonic ammo inside of buildings only. The idea was to be able to fight on your way to a target, or fight on the way back with supersonic ammo that would have flight capabilities closer to an M4, and fight on target with subs that would reduce your signature.
You are not worried about signature reduction (which is different from reducing flash blindness, hearing loss, and concussion), and you are not fighting your way to/from a target where you need signature reduction, and you are also not using a full-auto AR.
A 300 BLK PDW is a cool concept weapon because it can use a very short barrel, but that's not going to be an improvement over a suppressed 11.5 AR for "inside the house" work.
Really, the only real application for a 300 BLK AR for citizen use would be pest control with subs (hogging), hunting where a 22 cal bullet is illegal, and giggles. That doesn't make it a bad rifle, just a worse rifle for almost any actual application than a 5.56 AR.Florida Crew as of 3/21
