WW2 isn't 32 vs 32 multiplayer matches. There's no ninja sneaking during an active battle. A lot of them have weapon loadouts that aren't accurate either. Statistically, your ass as an infantry would get owned by artillery and such.
Total War has maximum 2,000 unit battles when the battles they represent in real life had 10,000 to 100,000 combatants. So this arguably leads to flanking being overpowered since you get way more maneuver room than real life Generals had.
Warband: the AI just charges senselessly into each other like morons. Bannerlord improved on this I guess.

How do people play military and war games that aren't realistic?

Maybe you should try the Hunt:Showdown
Apparently it's pretty intimate / realistic. What you're looking for ..... There's probably a lot of games that fit what you're looking that aren't well known ... But if you're gonna go after typical battlefield/cod experiences you're gonna be disappointed.Sig line can't be a novel

1:45 The guy just jumped from what looks to be 3-4 meters high, went through fire, got burned and healed instantly with just a bandage. The OP seem to be looking for something that is ultra realistic and I don't think a game like that exists. Even Arma 3 with a fuk ton of realism mods can be argued not realistic.
I just have fun. When I play games, I expect a degree of realism but not ultra realism.
Which Total War are you playing? Been playing 3k and I've had 6k vs 6k + extra units from reinforcements. Heard the max you can get is 10k per side including reinforcements.

This is basically why the whole concept of an online tactical shooter is just a joke. IRL combat scenarios are nothing like online competitive gaming, everything about online FPS is more closely related to a sport like paintball than anything combat related. It's why my favorite tactical and war shooters are all offline games, you can actually get more of a tactical/war experience like that. Problem is all the FPS are online competitive games these days, been forever since we had a game like SWAT 4, Tom Clancy's Vegas, or a decent war game like COD 2. If those series are still around they have been watered down by modern online gaming mechanics.

Arma is pretty much the closest thing to realism in a shooter these days. When you get shot you get shot, you can't just be instantly healed, and you aren't some super-soldier that can sprint for days and jump out of tall buildings like it's nothing. In this day and age where your average "tactical" shooter gives you insta-healing and super-human abilities, a game like Arma might as well be an IRL combat sim.
It's just funny though when I see a game like that in the video and gamers are trying to act like it's so realistic and tactical. Shows how most gamers are just completely out of touch and big fans of the usual online gaming mechanics these days.

have you been to war? Been shot at? Tried aiming and shooting with max heart rate while getting shot at while just watching your buddy take a 7.62 to the head? How tf would you know "realistic"? I don't play games for realism... Halo 2 and 3 are the two best games ever made and they're the furthest from realistic. You want realistic... enlist 11b and I'm sure the Army will have you hunting down cave pirates in under a year.

because what would make a "realistic" war simulation wouldn't make it fun and they are just games.

bruh if it was super realistic then you would just get your face blown off in the first 2 minutes of action on normandy and there wouldnt even be a game.
I still do like shooters using normal real world guns, either ww2 era or modern era. I dont like futuristic games like halo with the lasers and chit that much. half life probably being the exception

What's the goal here? Make a game so realistic where you cannot skip the tutorial and the tutorial is going through days of training drilling into your head all the military terminologies, call signs, callouts, loadouts, how to read a map and plot your course through it, squad formations and then going into missions with your squad being strict af and sticking to the military role play in discord reciting all these "tacticool" stuff with your bros and random dudes in voice chat? Sounds like some in deep geek chit for me.
There are games that have attempted this like Arma and Zero Hour but they didn't become mainstream. Arma sold pretty well but not enough to make it an AAA game with great graphics. Most gamers like me never had military experience and just wanna have fun. They play fps games to experience war and gun fights without the boring things that come with it, including the threat of dying. Game companies know this that's why they make games like Cod and BF4 how they are. The most tactical mainstream fps game that I know is r6 but it's far from how Arma is. Zero Hour people say is what r6 should have been but have fun queueing on the lobby for 3 years before you get a match.

The comment about paintball nailed it... we want our online games to be games, ie sports. In war, we just want to kill other mf'ers, and sporting doesn't really factor into it.
BRB your team has 30 guys and their team has 60 guys. BRB you're walking into battle and get blasted sky high by an artillery battery you never even saw. BRB other dudes call in gunships halfway through the match and there's not an anti-air rocket within ten miles.
Games have to be fun, and none of that chit is.FA Crew

I think this is a good video about the topic even though it talks about airsoft and not games. Very applicable.
Lol at the former military guy saying that rushing and ignoring military tactics was actually more effective, and fun.
Most guys I know who care so much about realism in fps games are also into airsoft and are 300lbs obese, collecting military gear and being a know-it-all like, "hurr durr those r6 operators won't last 2 minutes in a real fire fight because of their gear", I'm like okay lolLast edited by M0nsterB0y; 05-09-2021 at 02:48 PM.

A good comment from that video you posted: "I can honestly say as a veteran with years of experience and tours, I get my arse kicked playing airsoft all day and on console games. Kids think differently and are fearless." - Big Si Lewis
Honestly I think that says it all really. It's why the whole idea of a realistic shooter is just a total joke the second online play gets involved. You could maybe capture it with a single player experience, but in online play it always becomes a paintball like sport experience because nobody really has to fear for their life, nobody has to deal with an actual wound, most of these "tactical" games like Battlefield and Siege are just a joke with "sit behind cover for 5 seconds" insta-recovery and everyone running around like crazy with all sorts of gear.

First I question how someone could even come to such retarded conclusions, then I take a look at the person it's coming from and it all makes sense.
I don't give a phuck what kind of games you like or don't like, I don't care about your chit. I am just calling out industry trends right now and a lack of real tactical shooters, if you don't like that you can go phuck yourself. Going into your dumb phucking Twitter rage, just lol, talk about getting off topic. You seem to have no idea what I have been talking about and are having a meltdown because you wanted to agree with that other retard who was having a meltdown.

Because it wouldn't be fun anymore.
