Hi,
If that question has already been answered pls send me the link.
I'm thinking about buying a pair of 90 pounds ajustable dumbbells.
But before paying 700$ for something I wonder how long do dumbbells like that last ? 3 years ? 5 years ? can I expect 10 years of regular use (5 days a week) ?
Also, how solid is the mechanism ? Normal dumbbells last long because the mechanism is reliable and simple(screw), but if I drop my adjustable dumbbells on the floor with 90 pounds on them will that break ?
What is your long term experience with that kind of dumbbells ?
Thanks you in advance.
Edit: by adjustable dumbbells I'm talking about Bowflex techshark and Atai kind of dumbbells.

+1. Bowflex only seem to last a couple years with regular use, if that. I come across a lot that have broken plates and/or unselectable weight increments (due to broken internal components). Powerblocks and Ironmasters will probably go forever if handled properly. I've seen many that were decades old and still worked like new. Some of them were even stored outdoors and still managed to survive.

Powerblocks are a very robust design. You just need to be careful when you're putting them back in between the other increments that you put them in straight or you could potentially damage the connecting rods. Also you don't want to be dropping them.
I just upgraded mine to 90lbs and bought the stand which helps a lot with picking them up and putting them back. Wish I'd bought one a long time ago.

Haven't heard of those so I'm guessing they are off of Amazon and/or random Chinese imports. A lot of these have popped up due to the pandemic and it's hard to know how good they are. If you want quality, I'd stick with Ironmaster or PowerBlocks. For more options, Coop (Garage Gym Reviews) recently did a roundup that isn't great (recommends Bowflex) but at least gives you an idea of reputable choices. I don't recall Techshark or Atai in the roundup but I could be wrong.

I got a pair of 72lb adjustables from BWSS several months ago and they get used also every day by my girlfriend and me. They've held up pretty well and we don't drop them. I got hit with an ad for them several months back and that was when EVERYTHING was out or being price gouged. These were $600 shipped. Doesn't look like they have the same ones for sale anymore on their site though.
