Just so everyone can play along and make their own decisions
Measurements for common mount heights (2.6" sight height above bore), 3150 FPS, 55gr bullet loaded to M193 spec
300 yd zero (not meter, yard) is -2.6" to +5" from the muzzle to 300 yds peaking at 175 yds.
200 yd zero is -2.7" to +1.25" from the muzzle to 250 yds peaking at 150 yds. At 300 yds its at -7.2", so it's definitely more total deflection than a 300 yd zero will be, and much more if you're going out to 350 yds (-5 vs -13.8).
A lot of shooters are going to prefer 2.5" of deflection from POA from the muzzle to 250 yds to 5" from the muzzle to 350. It's no surprise at all that the USMC, IDF, Haley (USMC) etc use a 36/300 yd zero. That doesn't mean that I don't still find 5" of deflection gross, LOL.

"DOD specs" would call for a Carpenter 158 bolt.
Heat treat is really important on 9310, C158 is much more forgiving. What coating does that bolt have? Nitride?
"Over gassed" is overly-critically-reviewed (what?). Over-gassed isn't a big deal for unsuppressed and a lot of the guys who get hung up on that are trying to finely tune their carbine to the "perfect" soft shooting operation where it's just enough 'gas' to lock back consistently on empty with their chosen ammo, but that might not be the best way to go,
because 'over gassed' gives you more margin for weak ammo, lack of lube, dirty gun, etc. That's why manufacturers over gas so much, so you can shoot cheap weak ammo in an under lubed and/or dirty gun and it will still work. That's not necessarily a bad thing

Why I default to 50y zero (I myself am not overly worried about hitting a target at 200+ yards with my dot sighted long barrel pistols or SBR). But then even the heavy 77gr out of a little 10.5, at 300 it's just aim a little high (still POA on the target) for what should be 'a hit' on a standard target
50 is tightest from 0-250. And the magnified optic on my 16" has BCD reticle

It's the deflection measured in inches at that distance.
EDIT: Our ballistic calculator can run it in MOA, Mils, or inches depending on what the user wants. For this case inches is most appropriate.
Further Edit: If it looks weird, it's 55gr M193 for a 16" bbl instead of 62gr M855 out of a 14.5" barrel.
I ran M855 at 14.5" velocities and got:

Velocity makes a difference on all of these (so barrel length and bullet selection makes a big difference), but the 200 yd zero is roughly 45/200 yds to be dead on for my 14.5 and 16 inch uppers.
I usually recommend a 200 yd zero for hunting rifles for the same reason. If you're taking a fast shot on a close target, you don't want to be thinking about where in the range you are, and if you're further away you have a little more room to compensate. People call in with crazy zero concepts all the time.Florida Crew as of 3/21

Not sure where DSArms source their barrels, and gas port size. *shrugs*
If it's an M4 clone you want, you can try building the upper yourself. Good to have tools anyway.
Military over-run on 14.5" with m203 flats. HPT & MPI tested, chrome-lined. $199
https://davidsondefense.com/AR-15-55...ns_p_7450.html
(I know I'll get flak over "davidson defense", but they just buy surplus to resell).
For the upper, I'd go with BCM blem upper $60
https://bravocompanyusa.com/bcm-uppe...emo-scratched/
Get yourself a drop-in handguard and delta ring assembly, you're good to go. (under $30 everywhere)
You'll have to find a way to pin&weld a flash hider.
For a BCG, righttobear.com has AO precision BCG or RTB Premium Phosphate BCGs. Both are phosphate carriers & c158 bolts, HPT & MPI tested (unknown if individual or batch tested). They are usually under $90. OOS atm.Last edited by Tuksonrider; 04-23-2020 at 04:55 PM.

- BREAKING BREAKING - FREEDOM WEEK PART 2 IS UPON CALIFORNIA
looks like the same judge that struck down the mag ban, giving california freedom week, just did the same for ammo.
this allows CA residents to order straight to their doorstep like the good ole days rather than to FFL and background check. or make runs to Nevada and get some ammo
I'm reading more into this now to see more info and what stores start shipping to CA
but for now, can any of you guys recommend me a site with some good defensive 5.56 rounds? I've got okay bulk stash, but need some HD rounds
(yes i know its terrible prices right now)
