Long story short, I took 400 milligrams of L-Theanine with about the same amount of caffeine early yesterday morning and woke up several hours earlier than I usually do today. I had to take Kava to get back to sleep. Anyone else experience this?

Never had that issue especially so far apart (morning dose and nighttime). Caffeine’s half life is a few to several hours depending on height/weight etc so it should have been eliminated by then. Any other source of caffeine etc later in the day?

Theanine won't have any role in you waking up as it's a supplement that will actually calm you down. While caffeine's active an effective for only a few hours, the effects of caffeine can last much longer. While you won't still have energy from the caffeine in the evening, it still can contribute to restlessness or not as easy to calm yourself down before bed.
Progressive overload + progressive eating = gains. Simple as that!
