You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Matrix563 lead me to this barbell which was just 40mins down the road from me.
I believe it's a 1960's York bar, but not 100% positive. No york markings, pretty sharp knurling, and strange set-screws in the sleeves
Comparison:
The owner had the entire bar wrapped up in athletic tape. I peeled it all off and the knurling is in pristine condition, no flattening:
Hmm....?

Yes, it's likely from the late 50's into the early 70's. The knurling isn't as fine as I've seen on some earlier versions of the bar.
The Sauz is getting stronger by the day...You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.

Exactly! I removed the set screws and noticed another pair directly under them. The set you've attached is gorgeous.
Sure, Nothing crazy here, I'll give you the condensed version. Just a full disassembly to begin with (after allowing set-screws to soak in PB Blaster overnight, not to risk snapping anything on a bar this old).
Then, I'm soaking the sleeves, etc, in 2 gallons of white vinegar (fully submerged) as pictured:
I wrapped the bar in paper towels and soaked with white vinegar-- let it sit overnight. Gave it a good scrubbing first to get anything loose off of it.
Here is the vinegar-wrapped bar after about 24hrs:
You can see the rust and oxidation lifting
That's where I'm at now.
Up next is a series of wire brushing to get the knurling all clean, polishing the sleeves out with steel wool and polish, working up in fineness. And obviously a good re-oiling, etc.York Barbell Crew #79

I had a pretty good haul today. I got pairs of roundheads from 10-60 lbs plus a very nice rack that is too big to fit in my house. Also, after two years of holding on to a deep dish billard I found it's mate at a scrap yard Saturday.
The dumbell pic is my current collection of pairs. I have a few more singles I am looking to make pairs of.
