What is the average weight capacity of a 6' standard barbell? (1" diameter bar). At what weight do they tend to bend?

Typically around 200 lbs. THere are one or two standard bars out there (Ivanko is the only one that comes to mind that is currently being made) that will hold more than that, but they are expensive.
Generally, you are much better off going with Olympic bar/plates. You can buy bars that will withstand over 1000 lbs of force without bending permanently. It's not too hard to generate 1000 lbs of force by dropping a bar with 200 lbs or so.
Also, if you would stick with lifting and want to purchase machines, most of them will not take standard plates.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

I have heard that 7' standard bars "bounce" a lot more then 6' ones. Im currently using 6' bar that is rated for about 225 lbs and so far the bar bounce has been very little. Do 7' bars have a greater bounce?
The reason I ask is because all the half racks I've found are 48" wide and I am yet to find a 6' bar that will fit. The space between the stops tend to be around 40 - 44" on a 6' bar which is too short to fit the rack. 7' bars tend to be over 50" between the stops and would fit.Last edited by JeffUP; 01-06-2018 at 07:18 PM.
