People say that with every generation of resolution advancement (and audio too). Nevertheless, although 27" is the most popular display, 30"~ really should be the sweet spot.
In any event, scaling keeps getting better and at this point, there's little to no reason not to upgrade to a 4k monitor -- even if its not among the top tier listed above.

Here's a vid of me benching The Surge @1440p running butter smooth. It's a good gameplay video too for people in that area as most have trouble with those creepers/walkers/w.e they're called although I'm stuck and can't seem to find the place where to go which is kinda frustrating.
i5-4670
Zotac GTX 1080 TI Blower (hence the heat)
Samsung Evo 850 500 GB SSD + another 3 TB +500GB HDD.
16 Gigs
Acer Predator XB271HUA 165 Hz G-Sync Monitor that I just got this week
600W Be Quiet Pure Power PSU
I'm waiting for Coffeelake/Ryzen+, my i5-4670 completely bottlenecks anything 1080p or low settings, most games 1440p Ultra gives me the same fps as 1080p low and I want those 144-165 fps instead beeing in the 100s as I noticed the games that do hit rocksolid 165 fps feel INCREDIBLY fun, to me the difference between 165 fps and 60 fps is way bigger than the difference between 30 and 60 fps. I just hope AMD doesn't slack and makes some nice IPC improvements with Ryzen+.

Anyone building a Ryzen PC? I'm thinking of it actually. Have not used AMD since I built an Athlon 64 17 years ago.

Been thinking about it since before Ryzen, but I use my computer as a daily driver and tinkering with it comes second.
There are still a few issues with running ram at higher frequencies, but people get 2933, 3000, 3200 e.g. to run and get pretty decent clocks so it's not bad systems they have with 6/8 cores @3.8GHz++. I think many of the issues are amplified in the enthusiast circles.
I might as well just wait a little bit longer for Threadripper/Ryzen 2 etc., although that really depends on what kind of workloads we'll be doing at my graduate program.

RAM speed is inconsequential; and 98% won't need more than 8 including for gaming. On the other hand, if you're a diehard multitasker (and have stuff running in the background) then 16 should suffice. Anything beyond that is just bragging rights. Buy more ram if you have everything you need, money to spare and nothing better to do.

Actually, the display is probably the single greatest advancing peripheral on a computer. Something bigger and better, new and improved is always there and waiting for someone that has and wants to spend the money. After all, what serious gamer would turn down a trio of new curved 144 hz slim bezel G-sync panels?

RAM speed is extremely important for Ryzen. The Infinity fabric speed which is the interconnection between the core complexes (one CPU is 2 CCX (core complex) in the Ryzen R5/R7 series) is dependent on your RAM speed.
The faster your ram the faster the communication between the two CCXs are. Thus your CPU is faster as a whole as the RAM speed increases.
Performance wise this is notable on Ryzen, although after 3000 the difference is less than going from 2133 to 3000 (in MHz).

Really struggling to decide between these two 1440/165hz monitors.

The Viewsonic is $100 cheaper in aus, but the acer doesn't have that ugly green all over it. Anyone here either of these? What's your experience been like?
