Zinc toxicity has been seen in both acute and chronic forms. Intakes of 150 to 450 mg of zinc per day have been associated with low copper status, altered iron function, reduced immune function, and reduced levels of high-density lipoproteins (the good cholesterol) (34). One case report cited severe nausea and vomiting within 30 minutes after the person ingested four grams of zinc gluconate (570 mg elemental zinc) (35). In 2001 the National Academy of Sciences established tolerable upper levels (UL), the highest intake associated with no adverse health effects, for zinc for infants, children, and adults (2). The ULs do not apply to individuals who are receiving zinc for medical treatment, but it is important for such individuals to be under the care of a medical doctor who will monitor for adverse health effects. The 2001 Upper Levels for infants, children and adults are (2):
It states that the upper levels should be in the 40mg area.
If I had to vote, based on what I just read, I think 100mg of zinc is too much

Check out the graph that is 1/2 down the page...
It talks and shows the "Upper Levels"
I wouldn't make it a habit of consuming too much zinc...
That's just me
Good luck

I really do hope someone chimes in here as well as in the supplements forum with a better answer then what I can come up with.
My only question is what is so magical about 100mg and how/what are you doing to get to it?

Anything above 30-40 is potentially damaging, particularly as you're only 16. Why on earth do you think you need 100mg of Zinc a day anyway?
As with most things in medicine, intakes like this operate on a bell curve of sorts. You hit a point where your body is just going to get rid of it anyway because it has naff all to actually use it for.IIFYM

Why do you ask but then ignore the answer several times? Super disrespectful and waste of his time.

Elderly people given 100mg of zinc for a year suffered no ill effects.
Lots of false information out there, 100mg of zinc is absolutely fine.

i know OP probably isnt going to read this but to anyone researching about zinc heres my 2 cents or advice:
if youre not deficient in zinc then you dont need any zinc supplementation at all and the benefits you read online wont happen to you. and if you are deficient 50mg/day should honestly be the max for most people. but you should go to a doctor because im sure there are people who benefit from 100mg/day
but in general id say youd feel the negative sides of too much zinc if you take it for a long time:
-low copper
-fatigue
etc
for a short period is fine i think but in general just take 50Ex-Distance Runner | Ex-Sprinter | Current Bodybuilder/weight lifter

My bad experience with 100mg Zinc
With my own experience, 100mg a day is NOT okay. Here is my experience. In the morning, I take 2 multivitamins. I also take half of a 50mg Zinc pill. On the day I had a huge exam, I was rushing out of the house, and accidentally took 2 vitamins, AND 2 Zinc pills. Within 10 minutes I was feeling very very nauseous, but the feeling went away in 2 minutes. i decided it was nothing and went to school. 20 minutes later i felt horrible, was extremely nauseous, and knew for sure that I was going to throw up. I threw up not only once, but twice. Long story short, play it safe, and only take a little bit a day. Just a little bit is enough to keep your Zinc levels average. No need to take more than what is necessary
