LMAO at that kid not even trying to steer away from the rocks, wow.
I broke and ordered the JB4 today, it's probably excessive as we only have chit 91 gas here in Commiefornia and the JB+ would have done just as well but whatever.
Hopefully sometime in the next decade there might be a decent flash tune like bootmod 3 available for the B58

Question for those affected by the combox recall.
What option did you guys choose between the 3?

Now I'm waiting for the service rep who's trying to get approval to change the option I chose from $200 card to retrofit combox.
Will that void the warranty assuming it still has something left on it?
Do you guys usually install tuners on cars still on warranty?Last edited by jinda628; 03-15-2017 at 08:53 AM.

I'm not sure I completely understand your combox problem.
After I had my car for about three months, the iDrive got disconnected from BMW ConnectedDrive. I called the Genius at the dealership who reconnected it from her computer, and gave me an extra 6 months of service for my inconvenience.
It was really simple and took less than 10 minutes on the phone.

Sorry bro I didnt elaborate on it that much as I thought it was a common recall issue.
- Service adviser said there is a combox recall because BMW is discontinuing the BMW Assist/SOS button.
- Service adviser gave me 3 options, 1. $300 gift card or 2. $200 prepaid visa if I agree to just get rid of the old combox or 3. reftrofit an upgraded combox to replace the old one.
- I initially chose #3 but SA said bmw will stop support on the new one too by end of 2017.
- I asked him if I choose to remove the combox, will there be other features thats going to be affected like the connected drive etc. And he said none, just the SOS functionality.
- I chose the $200.
- This all happened Sat, 03/11.
Then I did my research about the recall and learnt that:
- The recall is actually about upgrading the existing one to be updated and compatible to 3G and 4G cellular connections.
- That removing the combox will disable my connected drive too and not just the BMW assist.
- Went back on Monday, 03/13 to have them fix my headliner because the cover is falling down either they didnt put it back properly or they broke the clip. And to complain about the combox.
- I told him I need the combox back for my connected drive and he told me he's not sure if he can still reverse it.
- Told him he gave me wrong info about the recall and what's affected so he told me he's gonna check with his manager.
I dont know. Just really felt pissed with how they handled the service. First they did a very shi+ty job in putting everything back in place and this.Steam - jinda28

2013 X1 x35i
Well, we finally have nice weather here after those snowy weeks so was able to have it washed and finally a pic.
Blurred everything else since I'm just in a plaza car park. Really loving this car!
Got it with 30k miles on it, original warranty until April 2017 and have it extended until April 2020 or up to 100k miles.
I want to get the B3 Transmission/Performance Motor Flash and JB4 as first few upgrades but just checking about warranty issues.
Here are some of the listed options. Complete list below.

- Comfort Access
- Panorama Glass Roof
- Lighting Package (Xenon, adaptive lights, etc)

Dinan invalidates the factory warranty, they give you a dinan warranty to replace it but read up on bimmerpost about people's experiences trying to claim on that.
Dinan bullchits with their claims, they dont use dyno numbers and use bmws under rated crank numbers to claim a bigger improvement than theyre really giving.
Bootmod3 seems to be the best flash for the n55 but bye bye powertrain warranty, lol. JB4 should be fine.
Grats on the x1!

It is.
There is a lot of shyt talk on those BMW forums where mods are concerned. Dinan Stage 1 is a conservative mod that's not going to come close to grenading your engine. There are much stronger mods out there, for a lot less money. You pay for the warranty support, and if you have it installed by a dealer who is reputable and is also a certified Dinan installer, you won't have any problems.
ETA: Go to your dealer. If they are a Dinan installer, they will have a tech there who is the Dinan guy. Talk to him. Ask him lots of questions. I wouldn't pay much attention to what random guys on the Internet say about it all when I could talk to the guys who will be servicing my car.Last edited by Bo_Flecks; 03-22-2017 at 06:57 AM.

^Yeah, its actually confusing researching whether what tuning is warranty safe and what's not. With so many forums and so much people saying different things.
From what I read, most people say the Alpina B3 transmission flash is warranty friendly but I get mixed reactions on JB4. You're right, I can try checking it with the SA.
I got the response from BMW btw about my other issue. They agreed to retrofit the new upgraded combox back to my car without material and labor cost to me. They said I have to return the $200 card which I haven't received yet and the retrofit requires me to buy a 2 year service contract. That's all fine with me.
Service will take a day so they will provide a loaner car. My disappointment with this service center is slowly vanishing and thinking of staying with them for trying to work things out. I was already planning on going somewhere for services even if its a lot farther.Steam - jinda28

Bootmod 3 (not alpina?) is going to instantly invalidate your powertrain warranty because its a straight ecu tune. It is going to be the safest way to get massive power out of an n55, the gains are nuts compared to a JB4
dinan and jb4 can and should be removed before going in for servicing because as nice as the dealer might be, its a faceless douche at bmw NA who is going to invalidate your OE powertrain warranty if they think they can get out of paying for an expensive repair.

420whp/460wtq with stock turbos on an m2 (n55)!!
if they could flash the b58 I'd say YOLO and do this immediately, warranty or not, as my JB4 is great but the B58 is kind of bottlenecked until they figure out how to flash it The fastest m240i's I've seen posted are still high 11's on the 1/4 mile (xdrive obviously)Last edited by Halfway; 03-22-2017 at 03:26 PM.

^I think we are talking about different transmission flash bro.
I'm referring to this:
Alpina B3 Transmission Flash
And this is their site:
B3 Transmission Flash + Performance Motor flash
About JB4, is it easy to remove and install back if I need to bring the car for service?
Are there traces for the dealer to see if JB4 has been in there?Steam - jinda28

The BMW Crew has been quiet for about a month now. lulz
So how are some of the more recent purchases working out for you guys?
Just recently took my ride to the dealership for its first scheduled maintenance. Spent about an hour shooting the shyt with the BMW Genius. Picked up some finer points on the use of launch control.

Hehe...threadkilla!
There have been some decent discussions recently in other threads about performance SAVs. Halfway used your X1 35i as an example of a very good one.
Some very nice hi performance soccer mom cars in the BMW Crew...

Other threads? Links lol!
Thinking about any of these three:
1. Thinking just all Gloss Black
2. Satin Black
3. Or combo of the two. Maybe Satin Black hood and roof then the rest will be all gloss.
I got quoted $1900 for any of the choices which is a really good prices plus he will paint the wheels too.
I had the sirius in my old car which they forgot to terminate after 6 months from buying the car new. Subs is live for 6 yrs and didn't use it a lot too.
I'm actually thinking twice about buying the Assist since only thing I love is sending destinations from phone to car. iDrive nav seems to be dumb in finding POI. But it helps in making the insurance lower too so I'll probably get it renewed.

Bored of my M240i now
I need an M4 CS to be complete.
LOL, I wonder if the guys with $150k cars are even ever happy with their rides? The JB4 was super fun for a few weeks but now I'm back to feeling there isn't enough pull and wishing there was an ECU flash for the B58
But I've already clocked up one ticket this year so more power might be a bad idea.

I don't get BMW
You can have a 240i beat an M2 with little modification
From an enthusiast pov, the M2 is a better platform than a M4 CS (1/2 the money, dct or manual, better aftermarket support).
However, coming from a 240i, i'm not sure if you would continue with a 2 series (probably the funnest and most unique for the money, tbh)

Had a 2011 E90 ZCP M3 and drove it from 2013-2016. Now I drive an X5M but might sell it for a Porsche Macan TT or Mercedes GLE63. My first car was technically a Toyota Camry but I got a 2009 128i convertible a few months later. So I've had my fair share of BMWs and am more interested in the other German brands since I'm not a fan of the direction the company has been heading these past several years. It's really lost me and I definitely see why BMW changed their long time logo of "The Ultimate Driving Machine" to "Designed for Driving Pleasure."

I can see where you're coming from. I do feel BMW have been progressing since the M2 and the M performance models (which i hated the concept originally). I love exhaust notes (although some of it is played through the speakers unfortunately). Stock, the GLE 63s (lol at not getting a S) is a better car. I've driven both an X6 M, and a 63s coupe, the 5.5L V8 biturbo on the AMG is intoxicating. It is a gas guzzler (However, you're coming from a e9x m3). If you want to modify (Downpipes, exhaust, tune) the X5 is better. The Modern day BMW V8s (M5,M6, X5M, X6M) are very quiet stock and not very fun imo (until you go aftermarket). If you get the Macan, you have to get it with the performance package (have not driven it, However the performance exhaust is sexy). If you get a GLE, please get the performance exhaust.
