I hate tipping, fast food workers work harder than servers yet make less. I'd much rather tip the chef. and to counter the point made in the poster, i'd much prefer the actual prices and not have to tip.

Literally if you started a twitch channel and streamed yourself playing video games or started a YouTube channel as long as your face isn't gross you'd make more money in 3 months than you would all year waiting tables.
Really, this. As someone who's worked in a restaurant. The waiters do fuk all compared to the people actually making the food. And lol that you need to pay the waiter more for ordering a more expensive dish. The cook should get that tip money.

If tipping stopped being the norm, prices in the menu would NOT increase proportionally, simply because a much higher displayed price would drive customers away. Instead what would happen is that prices might go up a bit but the business will eat a good part of the loss in order not to drive customers away.
Right now the tipping systems allows restaurants to keep prices as high as they can while not even paying their employees. The average person is dumb as fuk. If they see 15$ they don't think beforehand "Oh I will pay 3$ in tips so that actually costs 18$"
With no tipping, they might increase the price to 16$, but they will never bump it up to 18$. It would drive customers away and the guy next door who eats part of the loss and keeps his price lower will get more business.

But, an incentive would be to keep your job and/or possibly advance.
It's not the customer's fault/responsibilty servers don't get paid enough, it's the corporations that own restaurants. Customers should feel no obligation to tip. I say this as someone who both tips and used to work in the industry.NPC Bodybuilder, former U.S. Navy
