Was doing some random talking with the GF during our 4 year anniversary two weeks ago.... blah blah blah I find out about the engagement ring AND the Wedding band. Good thing I have no plans to marry her anytime soon. (waiting for her to get on a career path, and me to get further along in mine).

I spent $2,200 but I hustled and had a connection with a local jeweler since my stepfather did work for them. Bought the setting from them, paid $900 for a retail $2,200 setting. Then bought a ring off E-bay for $1,300, pulled out the diamond and pawned the setting for $150.
Appraised for $5K so not so bad IMO, probably worth $2,500-$3,000 in reality.
Just LOL if you go to a jeweler and just buy a ring, brb buying at about 30-40% of the actual value.

Engagement rings are a fuking scam. It's some phony tradition created by and perpetuated by diamond companies. It makes no sense to have to spend a significant portion of your income to buy an overpriced rock to show your love and commitment to another person. Why would you have to do that lol. The whole concept of love is that it exists beyond the superficial and material items.
The worst part is that women actually buy into this BS and believe that buying an overpriced ring is a gesture of commitment. Fukin lol. DeBeers holding your relationship hostage.
And I see dudes spending thousands on these diamonds (which are actually worthless and the supply is hoarded by the diamond companies btw) but how come the women don't get anything for the dudes lol

My friend spent over 30k on his.
Yea, stupid money, but it was basically a business venture on his part and they've know each other for 30 years. It's basically like an arranged marriage. Greeks just stick together and they'll never get divorced. It's just not part of the greek culture to divorce, plus it looks bad in the greek community.
Basically he married her for the money, he won't admit it but we all know it's true.†Italian Crew†

id spend a few grand on the engagement ring but my girl said if I spend anything over $300 she wouldn't marry me, shed rather have a cheap ring and the excess that I would've spent put towards a house for us. plus diamonds aren't are rare and valuable as they made it seem. so id probably go cheap and get a gold ring with a small diamond on it and save the money then go cheap on wedding rings as well, but not as cheap

As you men grow older you will realize this. If she is a good woman she won't even really care about a big ring. You WILL, you will hate yourself when whores judge her worth and YOUR worth by the size of her ring. It's not about you, it's about making sure stupid whores don't make her feel inadequate over a stupid rock.
Plus if you buy a nice one the first time around, you'll never have to do it again.(っ◕‿◕)っ

Not a fan personally, but if your lady doesn't care, then go for it. You can find deals on good quality diamonds though; especially if you know someone working in the business. I got a huge 60% discount on the engagement ring because of that.
I'd rather go for a good quality real diamond regardless of the cost.
side note:
I even looked at wedding bands for myself that had some of the man made diamonds and didn't like the look of them. But in the end I just got a plain (no stones) tungsten carbide ring anyway because I know I would just end up ruining any other ring. Tungsten carbide can be found very inexpensive and is almost impossible to scratch which is why I went with that. You rock a piss, I'm gonna rock some Mitchell

Not more than 500$ srs, fuk that overpriced rock, it serves no purpose besides bragging rights to her superficial friends. Would rather use that money to buy us an amazing honeymoon trip so we can actually have something of worth, a beautiful memory.
