Looking to use my 2" plates on an olympic curl bar. Any suggestions? Looking for something decent, yet budget friendly. Would prefer to keep it under $100 if at all possible.

I think I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-47-.../dp/B00J088BKY
Black with collars. I want to say I paid $40-50 for it delivered, they may have stocked out over the holidays. Not bad. I looked at a lot of options because ideally I wanted something rackable but it came down to get this cheap/workable option or lay out big dollars and get an Ivanko (go big or get this). I went with this. Tons of oil in the packaging so prepare to wipe it down, let it drain and wipe it down again. Overall works well.▪█─────█▪ Rogue Barbell Crew #27 ▪█─────█▪

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.

Dude. . . . "Decent, yet budget friendly" and "keep it under $100" is not necessarily realistic. Are you looking for a short bar to curl with or an EZ-curl bar, or perhaps another specialty bar that isn't 7' long and straight? Many will tell you that the EZ-curl bar isn't the best for biceps, but will work well for triceps. Also, you can curl with a barbell. Do you want to rack your curl bar because you are one of those weirdos who likes to curl in the rack? Does finish matter to you?
Any 48" chrome plated curl bar will probably do what you want it to do, but you may find the finish to be a problem after a while. The chrome wears off or flakes. I'd consider, if I were you, a black oxide finished bar. If I were you, I would think about what you plan on doing with it and whether something 5' or 6' long and straight is better for your needs.
The Body-Solid black oxide bar is fine and may be cheaper through Fitness Factory.Last edited by AttyGuy; 01-01-2016 at 01:53 PM.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

A curl bar, as opposed to a bar used for curls, is not a straight bar:
If you are looking to work your biceps, the straight bar does a better job.
Some find too much pressure on the forearms when using a straight bar, so they go with a curl bar, usually an ez-curl bar. The Ez-curl bar is a particular type of curl or specialty bar. The ez-curl bar was invented by Lewis Dymeck, who sold the patent to Andy Jackson, who then sold it to Bob Hoffman. Below are two York ez-kurl bars and an ez-curl bar from Ivanko:
The ez-curl bar can be made for Standard or Olympic plates, as seen in this York ad from the 60's or 70's.
There are other specialties bars out there that are sometimes referred to as curl bars, but they aren't.

The bi-tri-trap bar is one example:
As is the Gaspari bar:
Neither is an "ez-curl bar." And, to recap, an "ez-curl" bar can be made for Standard or Olympic plates. You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

It really is Jan 1, 2016...
This is going to be fun for the next 2 weeks...
QFT. This is the right answer.
LOL WUT?
What planet is your gym on?
Good info.
OP, try using a straight bar as mentioned. If you want a dedicated bar for curling, try hitting up craigslist in the next couple of weeks when all of the posers drop the act.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59
