There are frequent issues with publishing, yes.
On the other hand user experience usually/often contains:
- Confounding variables I.e. training and dietary changes.
- Placebo effect.
- Bias towards whoever sent them the package.
Example:
Company A makes glutamine powder. Person A buys the powder when he starts working out. He makes good gains and he is impressed with glutamine so he tells his friend to buy it because he saw one of his favourite bodybuilders takes it.
However, this is n=1 anecdotal evidence confounded by the circumstances of the beginner as well as placebo effect of what he expected the product to do.
Research often has bias. We have seen some far fetched data being published.
However, throwing out all data because of this is a terrible idea.
In research you can isolate the placebo effect as well as keeping other variables constant with a control group.
Relying solely on anecdotal evidence may leave you spending loads of money on glutamine, CEE and arginine.PEScience Representative

did you even read the study lol? that title is misleading its not saying that everyone is lying about their findings, its saying that they are false in the grand scheme of things, mainly in regards to their conclusions and their application to other scenarios. The result is real, now how they actually came to that result is the question which is exactly why you should read into everything and not just abstracts and you try to learn the big picture as much as possible.
some examples of what its really saying/what im saying
"Now let us suppose that the investigators manipulate their design, analyses, and reporting so as to make more relationships cross the p = 0.05 threshold even though this would not have been crossed with a perfectly adhered to design and analysis and with perfect comprehensive reporting of the results, strictly according to the original study plan. Such manipulation could be done, for example, with serendipitous inclusion or exclusion of certain patients or controls, post hoc subgroup analyses, investigation of genetic contrasts that were not originally specified, changes in the disease or control definitions, and various combinations of selective or distorted reporting of the results"
"With many teams working on the same field and with massive experimental data being produced, timing is of the essence in beating competition. Thus, each team may prioritize on pursuing and disseminating its most impressive “positive” results. “Negative” results may become attractive for dissemination only if some other team has found a “positive” association on the same question. In that case, it may be attractive to refute a claim made in some prestigious journal. The term Proteus phenomenon has been coined to describe this phenomenon of rapidly alternating extreme research claims and extremely opposite refutations [29]. Empirical evidence suggests that this sequence of extreme opposites is very common in molecular genetics [29]."
"Too large and too highly significant effects may actually be more likely to be signs of large bias in most fields of modern research. They should lead investigators to careful critical thinking about what might have gone wrong with their data, analyses, and results."
so the results are true, they did happen, they just aren't true on a large scale or for most applications.Instagram: hyruliangoat_

I was excited to get my hands on glutamine. I ran it standalone for 4 weeks, dosing 20 grams a day, spread throughout the day as compelled by a protégé of the savviest of French-Canadian Fitness Coach/Businessmen. I also put on 8lbs of muscle in this period and kept all my gains! I noticed improved recovery, muscle fullness, raging boners, and all the girls at school who'd otherwise ignore me began hurling themselves into my arms and smooch the life out of my face.
I also experienced zero DOMS which was great because it allowed me to hit the gym more frequently -TWICE a day!- instead of spending time with people who care about me

Doubtful!
Edit: I guess people here are lacking sarcasm, it's not a personal attack on cage. I tend to reference a favorite of mine, The Hangover. I guess those who responded to me have not watched the movie?
From the hangover when checkin in at Caesars palace.
Stu Price: We have a reservation under Dr. Price.
Lisa: Okay, let me look that up for you.
Phil Wenneck: Dr. Price? Stu, you're a dentist, okay? Don't try and get fancy.
Stu Price: It's not fancy if it's true.
Phil Wenneck: [to Lisa] He's a dentist. Don't get too excited. And if, uh...someone has a heart attack, you should still call 911.Last edited by ubernoob; 08-24-2015 at 06:53 PM.
