I shot a Glock 42 today. Surprisingly wonderful. Truly a big fan of that little .380.

lol, so does her phone. The S Health has some cool schit, if you get a gear watch, it'll sync up your vitals. I'd rather spend that dough on ammo.
Can confirm, we were at the Inverness for a week for a work meeting in 2008. Played golf and by the end of them round, I had a crust of salt on my bald head.

Slime tubes on MTB crew . . . a little added weight but never stuck changing a tire or walking out the bike due to a flat that won't hold air.

Everyone hating on the guy because he was using IDPA as good practice reps. I've never done the scanning, but I don't see the problem with treating IDPA as practice/training as opposed to a competition. When I did it, I didn't care what other people's times were compared to mine, I just wanted the practice of shooting and moving similar to a real scenario as opposed to just standing there shooting.

Are there prizes at IDPA matches? What are the entrance fees? I mean, what are your actual odds of winning as a novice without race guns? I'd just go to get some practice in on an unfamiliar course that encourages movement and engaging multiple targets.
I really liked the course someone described where you play the roll of an armed robber, using a baby as a human shield while pushing a shopping cart that was obviously full of money out of the store as you gun down multiple shoppers.

I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but where I did it there aren't prizes. They would occasionally have a one day match (I never personally did this, so I don't know all of the details, or how frequently they do it) where there would be I think 7 different stages. You run each once and based on your time/score you get classified into a division; Novice, marksman, sharpshooter, expert, or master. Usually you go to it though and it's just a single stage scenario that you run through 7-10 times maybe? You don't get anything on those days, they're just show up, hangout and shoot.
A beginner at IDPA isn't likely to finish tops. Some of the people I shot with were just unbelievable. I loved it for practice. There's countless scenarios they can make up, so it's usually pretty fun. Plus where I was at all of the people were really cool, helpful, and just supportive. I expected the people to be ultra competitive and not friendly at all, they were the opposite. Even the limey Brit that was there was cool.
Edit: also it was only $5 at the place I went to and if you were a member of the club hosting it $3. On the days where you show up and earn the division classification it was $20.Last edited by JMath; 07-28-2015 at 07:07 PM.

what gear do I need to get started?
Pistola, mags(how many?), holster, and fishing vest?"Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of Nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you." -John Muir

Pistol, I always needed 2 mags, but I suppose it is possible you could need a third (definitely need more than 1), holster, ammo, eye and ear pro, and anyway to conceal it all. A lot of the people that were there just to get the best time wore vests. I wore a hoodie (pretty much what I'd wear on the given day and how I would carry). They let you carry the mags however you want, but I used a kydex holster for them.

Makes perfect sense to me to use a match to practice defensive skills for a situation where a bad guy might be shooting back. Those are real skills.
The alternative is to use the match to demonstrate that you mastered the event rules better than the other guys. Those are fake skills.America First

For some reason I am infatuated with the West and was set on getting together a Cowboy Action set up. Reality smacked me in the head like a slippery fish and I now realized I can't afford matching single actions, a lever rifle, a sxs shotgun, and leather. I need something else to do.
