Just finished watching it. I liked it up until the black hole, then everything became kind of fantasy-ish and confusing. I'll probably have to watch it again.

This. I think people are getting confused at why exactly it was a bookcase...and thats because if you can only communicate through gravity how do you translate that with a bookshelf? By using that gravitational force to push books and objects off of the bookshelf. His first thought was to spell out STAY with morse, and then use binary to provide the coordinates, and then finally he ****ed with the watch...this all happened within minutes, but relative to Murf the different methods of communication were spaced out over weeks or months.

Eh it's still pretty sci-fi. Especially knowing he is only seeing what a far more advanced civilization has created for him to see and use to communicate, for realistic perspective, just assume they had watched every single moment in her life and decided the best way for him to communicate with her was the bookshelf, so they created an environment where he could communicate across dimensions.

Kind of related to the movie
The clips they're showing through out the beginning and towards of the end of the old people are from a documentary series called "The Dust Bowl" by Ken Burns
Its a really great watch if you're into history at allTraining log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=165829701

I definitely enjoyed the movie. I don't understand how anyone can get so riled up about the scientific facts about a movie. It's a movie and it's supposed to be entertaining. It's not a classroom or a factual documentary about space travel. I don't know if it's their attempt at trying to be smarter than the writers and directors, but lets try something. Next time you *******s are watching a movie and you start saying to yourself, OMG they can't leave that planet with a smaller ship because of the gravitational pull - just walk away from the film and drink some milk. Let the adults who understand its JUST A MOVIE enjoy the show. /RANT

many of my friends call me a movie snob, because i tend to be one at times. that being said, I fuking love everything about this movie. Saw it in IMAX opening night, was completely blown away. watched it again on the computer a few nights ago, and even on the second watch i got goosebumps. outstanding, entertaining, escapism at its finest. i think it's one of Nolan's best, arguably the most entertaining (on par with TDK)

Matt damon was weak
I thought the movie was good, but a few things got to me.
1. The story was great with world ending etc. but not enough dramatics on what kind of influence it gave the people on earth except coughing lol.
2. Matt Damon = Dr. Mann has been an astronaut for decades and started the project, yet he doesnt know that he will blow up if he attaches without it being fully attached?? That makes no sense and actualy made me mad while watching it.
3. The last third was not enough for me to give it 10/10.>GTS crew - muzzing till bishes cloths come awf

I mean, I think he knew it was a bad idea and it'd probably go wrong, but if you think back to what he said about 50/50 odds being the best he's had in years its not crazy to think that Mann thought it "might" work. You have to keep in mind that a lot of flight systems and systems you'd find in space are set for maximum safety and redundancy, so the system might stop you from doing something it thinks is dangerous but you could realistically get away with it...maybe.
So I think he just thought YOLO, but I don't think he was totally ignorant to how dangerous what he was trying to accomplish with the airlock.STL Cardinals
